We’ve never failed to come here to eat the last few times we’ve been in Langkawi, but we’ve never actually stayed at the Bon Ton before although 4 years ago we stayed at the then-sister resort, Temple Tree.
We had booked the Silk Villa which has the requisite amount of space needed as a family of 5. My points to note from our stay:
1) I’m glad we booked this when our daughter was a bit older, she’s 4 now and capable of moving around autonomously. I think the accommodation would be less suitable with younger kids.
2) After a while, the continental breakfast which consisted of sliced bread (very nice homemade bread by the taste of things), yoghurt, milk, cranberry juice and cake delivered and placed in your fridge the night before, got a little old and tiresome. After the third day we took to hunting out hot local breakfasts.
3) Amenities provided include shower gel, shampoo, bath salts and a bar of soap. There are no shower caps or anything extra, so bring those along if you’d like them. In the room they do provide umbrellas and walking slippers to use which was much appreciated.
4) You can use the pool towels to take to the beach. Return them at the end of the day to the dirty towels basket.
5) My husband is vegan, and it wasn’t easy getting him food. I thought the restaurant might cater more vegetarian options but it didn’t have much although the kitchen was happy to try.
6) Mosquitoes - I made the mistake of thinking closing all the windows and doors before sunset and the use of mosquito netting and a mosquito coil was sufficient to keep us bite-free during the night. It wasn’t, my daughter and husband ended up with multiple bites after the first night. So in the end I shut all windows and doors by 4pm, placed the netting around the beds and sprayed the room with mozzie spray before we left for any afternoon/evening activities. By the time we got back the smell had dissipated and we had more pleasant nights after that.
Overall, this is a truly unique, boutique place to stay. You have a certain amount of privacy, the attached shelter for cats and dogs are great for those wanting to teach kids how to give back to the community and ours loved going over to pat the cats and dogs, and the staff are lovely. If you want a personal touch and a taste of authentic Malaysian living, perhaps you can’t get better than this. Thank you Bon Ton, it’s been magic.
