“5 star rating - really??!”
Reviewed 16 March 2012

We wanted a romantic getaway during Valentine and Prague came to our mind because we found it from our last experience amazingly romantic city. So we booked Valentine's package at Kings Court Hotel Prague. Although the courtesy of the staff at this hotel was good and friendly, the breakfast very good, the location very convenient, we found our 2 nights stay quite disappointing.

From the very beginning we have noticed that the service overall is far from 5 star. We booked a limousine to pick us up but no one there when we arrived at the main train station. We had to call the hotel several times and the receptionist (trainee?) could not speak proper English. About 30 minutes later, the driver arrived and we were headed to the limousine, which is a joke (it's just a normal car) and very dirty. The driver did not speak English at all, not excusable for any 5 star hotel. On arrival there was no one helping us to carry our luggage.

Check-In process was smooth, the receptionist was friendly and the bellboy was really helpful and very informative. We were upgraded to the next room category at check in, which we unfortunately find it's a joke. We just could not understand why they gave us a room with joined twin beds for our romantic package. We asked for another option and they offered us our initial room, which has a king size bed but the room itself is very very small.

Service was hit and miss, neither constantly good nor bad. It was really hard to communicate with some of the staffs as their English is really poor.

Coming back to the hotel after long day exploring the city we found a little surprise in our room : champagne and strawberry chocolate - very nice touch. But, at 2 p.m. isn't it a little bit too early?

We were entitled to a romantic candle lit dinner at their restaurant. It was our biggest disappointment! We have asked the receptionist the day earlier to have in room romantic dinner and she suggested us to have it at the restaurant instead as they were working on the special setting there to ensure the romantic ambience.

We regret that we did.

The music didn't match at all. It is supposed to be romantic, but they have technical issues so it was connected to the local radio. We were expecting live music, but what we got was someone on the radio broadcasting, talking, laughing so annoyingly, etc. romantic? definitely NOT AT ALL!
At least they should have informed us about the technical problems so we could opt for in room dining like we initially wanted.

Food was not good (OK at best) and the waitress didn't know how to react when we were complaining.

Checking out was flawless and they allowed us to check out late, which is very helpful to fit our departure schedule.

I would not recommend this hotel for a romantic stay. There are better options in Prague for sure!

Dear valued guest,

Thank you for sharing your opinion about your recent stay at Hotel Kings Court with the Trip Advisor community.

We see negative feedback as a chance for us to learn from and improve our services and products and we therefore appreciate hearing your feedback.

With regards to the transfer please let me apologize. Our drivers and cars are supposed to follow strict standards with regards to appearance and the incident you hereby mentioned is followed by consequences for all employees involved.

Upon check-in we tried our best to accommodate your wishes by allocating one of our biggest Executive rooms, an upgrade which we sincerely hoped you would enjoy. We thought the fact that two twin beds were joined together with one king size sheet would be comfortable for you due to the view and size of the room. We apologize that the room was not to your liking.

We also sent you a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine to your room because we wanted to make your stay very special and romantic. We apologize that the timing was not convenient for you.

With regards to your comment about the music in the restaurant, it is true that our musical system had last minute technical problems. Live music was never announced with regards to the program which is why it was not offered. We hoped that the setting would be more romantic for you than in-room dining due to the space and atmosphere with candles and flowers and once again we can only apologize. We regret that during your conversation with our restaurant supervisor you did not mention your dissatisfaction with the food quality, since normally we try to solve any problems as soon as they occur. It is very unfortunate that we were not able to apply this guideline in your case.

We also regret that our gesture of a complimentary late check-out, which is normally charged at €50, did not compensate for your experience at our hotel.

We sincerely hope to be able to convince you in the near future that Hotel Kings Court is able to provide its guests with a romantic stay as it has happened in many other cases in the past if you take a look at other reviews.

We remain with genuine apologies that you could not enjoy your stay with us fully.

With best regards,

Jessica Olschowka

We really enjoyed our 4-day stay in Prague, especially thanks to this nice hotel.

The rooms were big, clean, comfortable- great bed and bathroom. Very nice breakfast - it contained a lot of different sorts of food - for everyone's taste.

The price was very decent versus the hotel location (city center) and the quality it provided.

We would go back for sure !

The location of the hotel is very convenient, you can just walk around to discover the pedestrian areas. Decoration of the hotel and rooms is very nice and contemporary, although my de luxe room was quite small. Both the service and food was great, it is altogether a great value for the rates. I stayed only one night, but next time I come and have more time I will definitely try the spa.

Room Tip: Ask for bigger room if you can.

Dear Jana from Bratislava,

Thank you so much for publishing your positive review on Trip Advisor!

We are happy you enjoyed your stay despite the size of your room. In case you will return to Hotel Kings Court please advise Reception that you would like to have a bigger room. Due to the layout of the historic building, we do not have a standard size or layout for our guest rooms. We will be more than happy to accommodate your wishes!

My wife and I are from California. We have traveled the globe, and this was our first time in Prague, Czech Republic. My wife found The Hotel Kings Court online and made reservations. On our arrival we found the staff to be friendly and fluent in English. The hotel was in a great location. The breakfast was great, and the view from the restaurant was fantastic. They have a bar that would challenge any NY bar with regards to drinks and hospitality.
We got to know one of the bar tenders Pavel Krba. He was a blast. Great guy that gave us suggestions on where to go, and where not to go. We enjoyed our time with him, and his drinks were unique and cutting edge.
I would highly recommend this place and would recommend spending some time at that bar with Pavel. If you do tell him Todd from California sent you.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience in Prague and especially at Hotel Kings Court!

We are more than happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay and that Pavel could convince you with his expertise on cocktails and his knowledge of the city. He mixes new cocktails weekly so I am sure during your next visit to Prague you will be able to taste his new creations.

Thank you also for your positive feedback about Kings Court's location, breakfast and of course our staff.

We are looking forward to welcoming you back soon!

The Kings Court Hotel is located right on Republic Square in the heart of Prague. All of the "must see's" in Prague are within easy walking distance and the only way to sum up it's location is perfect.

We plumbed for a delux room and in hindsight we would have payed the premium for an upgrade as the room was small, although adequate.
Fittings in the room were of a high standard and cleanliness levels were excellent, with daily maid visits and an evening turndown. The television channels in the room were limited but for us that was merely a niggle.

The staff at the hotel were very well presented efficient and helpful. They provided us with a great service without ever being servile.
The front desk is staffed by professional staff that made both check in and out very swift and at the time of our check in they were quite busy but still managed to sort us out within 5 minutes. They are also happy to help with directions and recommendations.

Our first impression of the breakfast buffet was that it was quite small but once you start helping yourself it quickly becomes obvious that there is a large selection of options that should satisfy most.

The quality of the food at the breakfast was of a very high standard with a large continental choice as well as some tasty Czech sausage and an egg chief. Little touches such as freshly squeezed oranges (the dispenser does it there and then) and high quality fresh coffee help make it easily the best inclusive breakfast we've had at a continental hotel. In addition the staff in the restaurant are every bit as good as the front desk.
Topping it off is the option to have your breakfast "alfresco" in the heated glass annex on the square.

The FREE high speed WiFi was great and is high speed with no lag on our skype video calls home, great bonus for us.

We've tried in the interest of balance to find fault but can only come up with the smallest of niggles like the TV channels.

To sum up, all we can say is that at our rate this was excellent value and when we return to Prague we will be staying again.

Room Tip: Pay the little extra for a view of the square.

Dear valued guest,

We are very grateful for you taking the time to write your review about Hotel Kings Court.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience with fellow travellers.

For your future visit we can definitiely recommend booking an Executive Room with square view, as it is more comfortable and offers bonuses such as Spa and Executive Lounge access. We are nevertheless happy that you enjoyed the cleanliness and fittings.

Thank you also for your comment about the TV channels. We try our best to keep a varied offer for all of guests and will take your comment into serious consideration.

Our entire staff appreciates your review about our service and we are glad that our breakfast buffet selection was sufficient for you.

We hope to be welcoming you back to Hotel Kings Court soon!

Best wishes from Prague,

Jessica Olschowka
