If you want to see the castle and get value for money go in the morning and avoid the crowds. We went in the afternoon with tour guide and the trip up to the castle was horrid, packed in like sardines, only two stops but really unpleasant . Get to the castle and the security queue long, we all understand why but not efficient . As we wanted to see St Vitus Cathedral and it shuts at 4pm we went in there first and it is beautiful especially the stained glass windows but entire sections closed unless you pay more money and this wasn’t made clear when we booked the tour. There are many sections to the castle and you have to hurry around them so lots to retain. The cafe was so overcrowded with the usual enormous line for female toilets. We saw the changing of the guard which was ok but nothing out of ordinary compared to say Buckingham Palace. Renovations seem to be happening at a lot of the major attractions in Prague and areas of the castle no exception. In my opinion if you don’t go early don’t go.
