Hotel is in a great location--- right next door to Prague Castle. If you are mobility-challenged, it may not be a big good fit because it's at the top of a hill.

The hotel itself is very ascetically pleasing. The room I stayed in was very big, especially by European standards. There was a nice large bathtub which was welcomed after staying in multiple hotels before this one with only showers.

The elevator seems barely functional and is ridiculously small.

The breakfast is underwhelming and I would recommend going to brunch at one of the nearby restaurants instead. MLS Crêperie was great.

The hotel staff are abrupt and not friendly or helpful. Thankfully, I had no room issues and I had no problem navigating Prague. But if you're expecting welcoming staff, this is not the hotel for you.

Dear Nika B,
Thank you very much for spending your time to share your valued opinion on our hotel U Krale Karla with us and the rest of TripAdvisor users. It is nice to see your kind words regarding the great location next to the Prague castle and large and comfortable room. It is true, that our elevator is small, unfortunately there is no possibility to build any larger one, as the historical building of the hotel dated back to 17 century is protected by UNESCO protocol, which does not allow any reconstruction. We are very sorry, that you found our staff unfriendly and unhelpful, which is quite surprising for us, as the most of our guests finding our staff friendly and helpful, but we take your comment very seriously and we will focus on the behaviour of our staff.
Thank you once again for your comments and hope to see you again, so we can provide you a better experience.

Yours faithfully

Situated very close to prague castle at the top of a hill. Check in was very straightforward on arrival as I had done so online the day before via a link from the hotel. A welcome drink was also offered which was very nice. Had booked the airport shuttle service through the hotel which I can fully recommend. It costs 30 euros or 750 czech koruna which is around £24. More expensive than the bus and metro but less hassle and it took only about 20-25 minutes from the airport. It is a beautiful very czech antique style hotel With beautiful stained glass windows in the main reception area and bedrooms. There is a lovely staircase leading up to the bedrooms. An umbrella stand complete with umbrellas is available at the main entrance. Pastries and fruit are also available for guests during the day at reception free of charge.

The breakfasting room has a lovely painted mural on the walls. The room is quite small and at busy times this could be a problem. Breakfast was lovely. There was a choice of cereals, porridge, yoghurt, pastries, cold meats, cheese and salad. There was also a hot breakfast which varied each day with bacon, sausages, omelette, fried eggs and a vegetable. A toaster was available with a variety of breads and there was a coffee machine and kettle with a good selection of teas. Fresh fruit juice and a selection of fresh fruit was also available.

The bedroom was beautiful with its stained glass windows and it faced the front of the hotel over looking the street. It was very quiet. There was a large wardrobe, flat screen TV, the bathroom had a seperate shower and there were free toiletries available. There was also a hairdryer. There was a coffee capsule machine and a mini bar fully stocked with drinks and snacks but these all incurred an extra charge. The bed however was extremely hard.

The hotel location is excellent. About a ten minute walk to Prague Castle and Petrin hill which has many visitor attractions. It is about a ten minute walk downhill to Charles Bridge and on the way down there are some lovely souvenir shops. Wencelas Square and the old town are about another ten minute walk from Charles Bridge and it was lovely at this time of year with the christmas market stalls. The way back up to the hotel from the old town and Charles Bridge is uphill all the way so it may not be suitable for those with mobility problems. However there are many shops and restaurants to look at on the way back up which may give a bit of a distraction from the fact it is all uphill. A very pleasant stay in rhis antique style hotel.

Dear gelascotland,
Thank you for your stay with us and for your kind feedback to our services placed here on Tripadvisor. We are delighted that you have found the hotel, service and our staff to your expectations and that you had a great time with us and in Prague. We are also pleased by your kind comment regarding good organized transfer, which is the easiest way how to reach the hotel. It is true, that the hotel U Krale Karla is located on the hill next to the Prague Castle, for guests with walking difficulties we recommend to take the tram 22 on one of the stops under Castle and to arrive to the stop called Pohorelec, the hotel is just 5 minutes walking down from this stop.
We will be pleased to welcome you again in the future.

Yours faithfully

This was a lovely atypical hotel to stay at. It had a lot of vintage elements and they did their best to make it high quality. Room and toilet were clean, beds were okay. I found the lights a little dark but this might have been done on purpose to maintain its vintage aesthetics. Staff and breakfast were okay. There is a really nice cafe next to the hotel with delicious cakes and hot drinks.

I liked that the hotel was not near the crowded areas and had no problems walking up the hill to get to it. It is quite a walk to the bridge but we liked doing it as there were a lot of nice shops for souvenirs. Thank you for the lovely stay!

The hotel is in a great location and has charming/romantic interior. However it needs a little bit of TLC. It has loose fictures, temperamental TV and uncomfy beds. Reception welcome was lovely though found pile of laundry in front of our room. Check out took too long and breakfast was poor.

Dear Hana570,
Thank you for choosing our hotel U Krale Karla for your stay in Prague and for taking your time to write your review. It is nice to see, that you found our location and charming interiors to your expectation. We are very sorry, that you found your bed uncomfortable, although the majority of our guests finds our beds comfortable, your feedback is important for us, we will discuss this point with our housekeeping manager. Regarding the breakfast, it might seem, that the buffet is not very large, as we are limited by the space in the breakfast room, but we are changing the breakfast menu every day, that means our guests can taste every day something different.
We hope to see you again, so we can provide you a better experience.
