Private Tour Brevnov Monastery, Strahov Monastery...
Reviewed 2 April 2018

I had read a few reviews about this Monastery and specifically the library- they were all true! The library is breath taking! There is an optional tour (for more money) that lets you walk inside the library, but I opted for the cheaper viewing from the door. The only thing I didn't notice or no one mentioned before is that you have to purchase a photography permit (on top of your ticket) to actually take any photos. This permit was expensive- just $50CZK. They did ask for the permit, and while I was there visitors were caught taking photos without one...

Nice monastery, they have a collection of very old books and also a brewery that has a fantastic beer and even better food. You can order a kind of beer degustation here, which is supertasty.

We wanted to visit the theological and philosophical halls and duly paid our 120k to a grumpy man in the ticket booth. Imagine our surprise when we found the halls to be roped off and inaccessible. The "curiosities" collection had no information about the items on display. A charge was levied for photographs and donations were requested! To cap it all the church was closed.

Captivated by the pictures of the beautiful libraries, we braved the snow and sub-zero temperature to go to the Strahov Monastery few days ago. A bit disappointed coz the libraries look much more spectacular in pictures than in real life. What’s more, visitors are not allowed to go inside the libraries, only to take pics at the entrance which is miles away. What’s more, you have to pay extra to take pictures (50 CZK) or video (100 CZK). Make sure you buy your “photo/video permission” when you purchase your entrance ticket, to avoid embarrassment of being “reminded” by the staff that you are taking pictures without permission.
Didn’t check out the other parts of the Monastery as it was too cold. But have to say that signage (or the lack of it) on the Monastery ground was REALLY bad. Not very nice to wander around clueless in the freezing cold weather looking for the right building (they all look the same).

The Monastery is not special but the two libraries are so beautiful in this high location. The walk down the hill to the Karl bridge is also beautiful.
