The room is nothing extraordinary but alright and clean (the shower was a bit strange, connected to the sink).
The breakfast is not well supplied so if you came late, you may end up just with some yogurts left.
One more thing worth mentioning is, that there is tram line right below the windows and with the all night trams (which are going only during the Colours Of Ostrava), it could be disturbing (make sure to drink enough on the festival so you sleep like a baby :-) ), but it's not a big issue.
If you are coming by train, it is very well located, just couple of minutes walk from the main train station.
But in general we were satisfied with the hotel for the price.
I like this hotel, because it´s directly at the train station (Hlavní nádraží). You jump off the train and in two minutes you are there. The rooms vary, it´s no four stars hotel, but a reasonable hotel for a good price for one or two nights. I stayed there maybe ten or more times. To the City Center you go by tram (10-15 minutes) or cab (taxi) for about 6 Euro. What is a curiosity of this hotel is the fact, that the kitchen is opened 24 hours a day. So you can have, if you want, at 2 p.m. a steak or schnitzel, whatever you want. The food is good, cheap, and there are a lot of menus available.
It´s a simple hotel - if you like some Grand Hotel, you must stay in the Ostrava Imperial, but it costs 80-150 euros a night. At hotel Max the room rate (single room) is about 35, 40 euros. The staff is very sympathic, even if they don´t speak english very well, they understand you.
First of all: pluses. It is clean. Despite all look of terribly worn out, there is no dirt around. It is just next to the train station. Friendly staff in the reception.
One of the most awkward business accommodation I have ever had. The hotel looks like not-very-expensive-hotel 30 years ago (not kidding).
* Bar smells so bad after cigarettes, it is even difficult to breath there (with nice sign "smoking allowed" on the door)
* The bed is some spring construction very soft, kids would have fun jumping there (I was traveling alone).
* Towel is a brother of sand paper.
* Blanket is simply too short. I can cover my feet or neck. Not both.
* There is one battery for shower and sink, half broken (but it works somehow)
* Some super-noisy fan was operated in the midnight
* No table to put a laptop there.
* No coat hanger.
* Everything is extensively worn out.
Overall, stay if you desperately need to be in the walking distance from the train station - unless you want to spend 14 Kc for tram going to another hotel in the city center.
The worst thing about this hotel was the bad smell both in the bathroom and the room itself. Bathroom - not sure if it was the drain or the old musty poor quality shower cabinet but when I opened the bathroom door in the morning it was terrible. Besides the bathroom, all the smells from the kitchen in the restaurant downstairs went up to the room. The mattress was extremely soft and there was no lift in the hotel. If you order something in the restaurant downstairs they will not put it on your hotel bill although the reception is at the bar in the restaurant.
An advantage of this hotel is its position very close to the main railway station.
Hotel Max, Street Nádražní, Ostrava - nice and cheap accommodation, excellent cuisine with local specialities – the best pork stew and roast goose. Home comfort, near the Main railway station Ostrava - steel heart of the Czech Republic. Visit Ostrava, it is very interesting industrial city
