We chose this hotel as it was located outside of the city and promised comfortable, relaxing conditions, advertising itself as suitable for sportsmen. This suited us fine as we were in Suwałki for a round of Polish karting championships in which my son is a competitor.
First impressions were positive: brand new building, everything fresh and ultra-clean. The rooms are spacious and although there is no air conditioning this was not a problem at the end of August. We found the beds to be of high quality, with very comfortable mattresses and pillows. The breakfast buffet was generous, with large selection of everything.
So far so good…
The first warning sign came after leaving the hotel on the first morning. The reception called to ask me why we had left the hotel without payment. Astonished, I explained that we had made the reservation for three nights and the hotel had my card details anyway so I could not see what the problem was. As the receptionist seemed to be new to the job we managed to turn the issue into a joke.
There were no further problems until Saturday evening.
When we returned from the karting track to the hotel we found a noisy wedding party being held in the premises. We had not been informed about it at any time from booking to the check-in.
It very quickly became apparent that the hotel is not suitable for such parties. There is evidently no sound proofing, meaning that loud music could be clearly heard in the rooms. Furthermore, the party was not confined to the ballroom area and there were crowds of drunken wedding guests shouting in the corridors and pounding the doors. When the party came to an end at about 4 am, the guests decided to carry on in the neighbouring rooms and the noise continued unabated until breakfast time.
All my protests referring to the internal rules of the hotel indicating 10 pm – 6 am as a period of absolute silence were answered with words of understanding and with apologies, but the personnel took no action to allow the non-partying guests to rest comfortably.
My son had to appear at the track for the competition on Sunday at 7:30 am after completely sleepless night.
I spend half of my life in hotels and have stayed in some frankly shocking places, but never I have encountered such an inconsiderate and incompetent lack of professionalism.
If you are considering this hotel, my advice would be to check and double check that they do not have any such events during your stay.
Thanks to Booking.com crew who organised a refund for the last night of our stay which acts as some form of compensation for such dismal treatment.
