Better to go by bus to this place from centre of Budapest. Prices ok. No guide, but some interactive elements inside the museum (you can take clothes of traditional hungarian warrior). But informations are mainly general about ancient world. Excations are more interesting, i recommend to spare more time outside. Personal is willing (they waited for us a few minutes after closing time).

Thank Alena H

Aquincum was one of the most distant Roman outposts about 2000 years ago. This community grew to house about 40,000 inhabitatns and the ruins that have been unearthed at the site continue to contribute imporotant histoprical documentation of this advanced Roman settlement. It is located on the North side of one of the oldest neighborhoods of Buda, on the Western side of the Danube. The visitor will find at least two amphitheaters, public baths and a number of homes as well as a Mithreum. Virtually all movable historical objects (utensils, tools, decorative items, pottery, etc.) have been relocated to the neighboring Aquincum Museum, which offers a wonderful collection of Roman historical objects. This is within 10-15 minutes of downtown Pest and can be reached by public transportation or a short taxi ride.

The Aquincum Museum is a museum in northern Budapest. We didn't stay very long as we were a bit in a hurry but from we saw it was very interesting if you are into Roman Ruins. Archeological findings here are from the remains of Aquincum.

The museum is really beautiful and it is very child-friendly.
The outside area is very wide with a lot of ruins to explore.
If you are an amateur of ancient history you must visit it.

This museum has some really intesting artefacts not least of all a roman organ and a film of how a reconstruction sounded which was good. There are other intersting artefacts on display expecially the translated head stones which were very good. The english information boards were useful and informative however my concern is that there seemed to be a lot of restoration to bring the site to its completeness. Although the recreated room was interesting and honest. The overall effect however helped to imagine the way it might have been back in the day, The visual effects room was proving entertaining if a little frustrating to a mother and her child on the day I was there. As this does not seem to be a busy site and it was closing (4 pm) on the day i was there so I was nearly on my own it does have a kind of intriguing quality about it.
