If you're in Kecskemet for a couple of nights, then this hotel is a decent choice.

The rooms are clean and of a decent quality. You're not going to find a Boscolo quality hotel here, but as long as you are realistic with your expectations of a small town Hungarian hotel, you should be fine with this place.

Breakfast could be better, and it is a 10 minute walk into town, but apart from that it's a better choice than and of the hotels in the centre of town.

Overall I was impressed. Particularly by the service, which was attentive but never intrusive.

We stayed at this hotel during the International airshow, when rooms were at a premium.

The hotel did not put up its prices for the show - they just charged the standard summer rate of €67 for a double room.

If you are travelling by train as we were, the location could not be better. Come out of the station, turn right, walk for around two minutes and you are there! The day we arrived it was 37 degrees centigrade, so we were glad we did not have to wheel our luggage very far. One word of warning for the less fit - reception is on the first floor with no lift or porter service. There was an intercom at the door so I guess anyone with serious difficulty could have buzzed for assistance.

Reception staff spoke reasonable English considering not many British tourists pass this way and were friendly and helpful.

Room was spotless, modern, well-maintained and spacious - nothing luxurious but had efficient air-conditioning which we were very glad of! Only minor annoying thing in the room was that they were using standard double sheets on a king size bed which meant that the sheet tended to part company with the matress rather easily.

The old town is beautiful and is only around 10-15 mins walk from the hotel. There are busses around the city but its an easy walk. Strangely, restaurants in the centre of town are hard to locate. You will not starve though. Snack bars are everywhere - its just a bit difficult to get a proper meal. Getting a drink is much easier with a huge variety of bars and cafes in town. We were lucky enough to catch a wine festival in the main square which was well supported by the locals (and us!)

There is a small restaurant in the hotel building which is not run by the hotel - we didnt try it but it looked ok. There is also a discount supermarket in the building but choice is limited. There is however a petrol station across the carpark which is open 24 hours and sells the usual range of foods together with chilled soft drinks and beers (did I mention that it was 37 degrees when we were there!!!)

Breakfast was rather basic but was included in the rate so I cant really complain. I think this is actually normal in all but the top hotels in Hungary anyway.

So, if you fancy getting away from the biz of Budapest and want to see another historic city - 90 mins on the train will bring you here and so long as you are not looking for a plush hotel with lots of amenities, I'd certainly recommend this place.
