Everyone knows the atrocities nazis did but few know that also Soviet Union was guilty of actual ethnic cleansing. One of those places they did such things were the Baltic states, and among them Lithuania. This great museum documents this process very thouroughly. The museum has three floors of which two give information about crimes. The third floor, a basement, is a former KGB prison system. You can visit the cells there and they are horrifying. Especially the torture cells.

I am from Finland and as all Finns know, Lithuania`s fate was very close being our fate too, and this is why the museum touched me so deeply. Jos olet suomalainen ja luet tämän, suosittelen ehdottomasti tutustumista museoon. Sen jälkeen osaa arvostaa itsenäisyyttämme taas vähän enemmän.

Very unique museum with horrifying excamples of terror by the communists and nazis. Must be recommeded although not a nice place and not for weak persons.

A lot of reading in each of the rooms, the prison and execution chamber will remain with me for a long time. Would be slightly improved with seats as a lot of standing to read information

If you want to know how cruel people can be to each other, this is the place to go. Really touching. I am so happy we Finns avoided the destiny of our baltic friends. It was not easy though. Hard fight. Remember to respect the sovereignity of your home country.

I’ve always been intrigued by the Cold War and expected a somber setting with rooms full of files on people the KGB had spied upon. Not quite that really a thought provoking display of how Lithuania has suffered under Russian and German occupations. The depiction of executions in the final room was graphic and heart rending.
