Museum is a mix of history artifacts and local folklore display. it was interesting to see how Lithuanians lived in the past. Neat place, nicely done, just a bit out of specific order.

What an embarrassment this place was! SO much dross. Copies of stuff, mannequins in dress up clothes. Great for 10 year olds. Adults, stay away !

The musuem exhbits were somewhat random and there appeared to be no theme to the itmes on show in the different areas of the museum. Nevertheless there were some interesting artefacts and I learned something of the turbulent medieval history of Lithuania.

It's hard to encapsulate the long history of Lithuanian in a single building. The first section is self-referential, in that it is a history of Lithuanian historians! Once you get past that, you get a lot of artifacts from the archeological findings through medieval and modern times. While it doesn't hang together as a single story, many of the pieces are interesting of themselves. There is a nice diorama of the Battle of Grunewald, a turning point in the country's history. The museum really hits its stride when you get to the exhibits about everyday life and folk culture. There are examples of typical rooms in peasant cottages and a large collection of traditional costumes for men and women. There are also many examples of folk art and religious objects from country churches. This is more than the Grand Duke, the nobles, and the rulers.
