I spent 3 hours in Trakai and it has been a nice experience. The Trakai Castle in winter is beautifully surrounded by a frozen lake which was very suggestive.

There’s a sled attached to a log to spin over the ice when somebody pushes you that it’s really funny!

We went in March, and the lake surrounding the castle, was frozen and we walked across it, the Castle was very interesting and worth seeing, incredibly well set out museum rooms, full of information and exhibits, lots of stairs to climb, allow 2-3 hours, cafes are near by ,

We went to the castle today, following advice from locals, we caught a bus from Vilnius bus station for €2 to Trakai bus station. It's approx 30 minute ride. Then walked to the castle via the lake - very pretty. Due to season the lake was frozen and we saw locals ice fishing. Closer to the castle everyone was walking on the lake (including us) gave you different views of the castle - lots of people walked around the castle on the lake.
We spent about 1.5 hours looking around the castle & then spent time looking at the trinkets etc. We also tried some local pasties (again recommended by locals) - street food

The castle is located in a beautiful location, on an island in the middle of a lake. The museum itself is education and very fun, I had a great time exploring inside. If you have time, you can also rent a boat and go out on the lake. It's definitely worth a bus ride from Vilnius to see.
