“Deserves a More Worthy Tribute/Trail ?”

Reviewed 12 January 2017

On our travels over 49 of the 50 States , have bumped Lewis & Clark many times (not in Hawaii ?) and no one can detract from their or their groups achievements ! I saw more history in Louisville KY with the ex-slave Yorke then in the ND Section ? We were denied the 1806 Trail due to Protesters as the road was blocked ! So the 1804 down into SD was our only choice and while still fine, it was a bit underwhelming ? A bit of signage & a few History Markers but not a lot to extol this journey I think ? Come on people , should be better !!

A word of caution to anyone planning to do the part of the Lewis and Clark Trail from Bismarck to Williston ND----the oil boom has made travel in the area by car very difficult. There is massive road construction and heavy truck traffic especially in the 50 mile radius of Williston. Hotel rooms are impossible to get and very pricy. Hwy 1804 from Bismarck to Williston is a small two-lane now completely overrun with truck traffic. And the interpretive center at the confluence of the Missouri and Yellowstone rivers west of Williston says very little about Lewis and Clark, but speaks more to ND's geological history and prehistoric residents. If we had that portion of the trail to do over, we would skip it.
