The "refuge" is actually a series of parcels that are close to each other but not contiguous. Winter viewing: Several dozen bald eagles and probably a hundred (or more) hawks. And there must have been tens of thousands of waterfowl. Take one of the auto tours. The roads are gravel, but in very good condition. If you plan on getting out of your car and doing any walking around (which you should) make sure to wear boots unless the ground is frozen. The mud is sloppy. And get to the refuges early to avoid the people who flock there (pun intended)--especially on the weekends. The people at the headquarters are very helpful. Check there first to determine which of the areas to see based upon your interests.
