Description: Founding Farmers, the Greenest Restaurant in DC, is owned by the more than 40,000 family farmers of the NDFU, serving American inspired real food and drink with an emphasis and focus on cooking from scratch. While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn't mean we know every farm, and that doesn't mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we're working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values. We're serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.

I stopped by this restaurant after arriving in Washington DC for work. After a long day, I was hoping to relax and have a good meal.

The restaurant is always packed. Reservations are essential. I would never risk a simple walk-in and get seated. Originally, I was seated at a counter. When I asked for a table, they complied.

My food was its usual high quality and large portion. I would strongly recommend there crab cakes. You won't leave hungry!

Some of the items we had were very, very good - fried chicken, cornbread, a Pisco Sour cocktail. Others were average, and the prime rib was surprisingly tough and had to be replaced with short ribs.

Service was friendly and cheerful.

During our vacation, we decided to try Founding Farmers. After a 35 minute wait, we were seated at the edge of one table, with a group of eight at the other end. After some time, our sever arrived. She was nice at first. We placed our order and specifically asked our burgers to be cooked well done, no pink visible. When our food arrived, both burgers were just not right. Pink insides! After we asked for our food to be prepared properly, her attitude totally changed. We only saw her one time after, then when she delivered our check. What a shame. She did however, remove one of the burgers from our check.

Now, the group at the other end of our table were VERY loud, and talked about politics the entire time of our visit, along with being loud and obnoxious and very vulgar.

We will not visit this restaurant again during our current or future visits!

First, based on our experience, a reservation is a must (unless you want to wait at the bar for a while, which would be a good option). We visited after a theater matinee at the Kennedy Center. The food was outstanding, locally sourced and delicious. The signature items are old-fashioned comfort food dishes. The cocktails are hand-crafted, "pre-Prohibition" style. Our server Jose was great - efficient, with great personality and happy to offer suggestions to guide us through the meal. Highly recommended.

It's loud & worth the wait! OMGosh; we 3 were seated, waiting for our 4th & our server Nakia couldn't have been nicer about it. We questioned their amazing drink menue before ordering, but all the drinks were great! Then, there's the appetizers; devil-ish eggs were amazing, the farmbread proscuitto was a generous proportion & the entrees were even better. The shrimp louie cobb was excellent, our friends split the prime rib & pronounced it wonderful & B had the spinach bacon & blue & ate every morsel. We weren't ready for dessert, but the young ladies were, so ordered, at the server's suggestion; the Chocolate Mousse Bowl. To Die For Chocolate. Nakia kept having fun with us, in spite of the 'herding cats' routine we went through with every order. Founding Farmers is on our 'permanent' list of DC eateries.
