Description: The history of McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurants began when Bill McCormick purchased Jake's Famous Crawfish Restaurant located in Portland, Oregon, and brought the more than 100-year-old landmark back to life. When asked the secret of how he revitalized a restaurant on the brink of closing, McCormick says, "I like nothing better than being a good host." Part of the managerial talent McCormick tapped was Doug Schmick, a management trainee. The two formed a partnership in 1974, creating Traditional Concepts, a precursor to today's McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurants. In 1979, they opened the original McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant in Portland, Oregon. Since that time, the company has expanded to more than 80 restaurants across the country. The combination of an open imagination and a respect for tradition are what makes McCormick & Schmick's the classic and successful business that it is today.

For years, I brought a bunch of elected officials to DC and they always wanted to eat at McCormick and Schmick's. But my last visit, with friends, was a bit of a letdown.

The coconut shrimp with orange horseradish marmalade was delicious. The seafood stuffed mushrooms with cream sauce were okay. For our entrees, we should have gone with a filet. But we had shrimp stuffed with crab and a side of red pepper mashed potatoes with cheddar. With the appetizers, it was too much of the same.

Didn't have room for dessert, but on the next visit, I plan to try one of their signature items: A chocolate bag filled with white chocolate mousse and fresh berries.

When you are in DC for an event at the Verizon Center, you want to have a satisfying meal before you go in to the venue, where food and drink prices are exorbitant. We found that the happy hour menu at the close by McCormick anon Schmick's is perfect for drinks and delicious food. The happy hour menu is pretty extensive and we tried about five items. Our favorite was the shrimp. The drinks we yummy and the service attentive and not overbearing. We will definitely return!

We chose McCormick & Schmick's as the site for a pre-wedding party, the night before our son's wedding. The staff was very good and the service was fine. The party area was set up to make circulating among the table quite easy. If you have to schedule a large, or smaller, group party, check out McCormick & Schmick's.

Don't stereotype every guest that comes through your door that isn't wearing a suit and tie. You don't know what kind of a tip you are missing out on. Thanks for the water service and 22 minutes to look at the menu. We finally walked out and found another restaurant down the street that was happy to serve us.

I may not be Tom Sietsema from the Washington Post, or am I?

I have over 20 years in the food service industry both front and back of house. I know how to gauge service or the lack there of based on situations such as double or triple seatings. I have attended culinary school and I am currently a teacher.

Very disappointing service. I was not given the opportunity to comment or judge the food.

This used to be one of the best restaurants on K Street. Fabulous service and great food. Not anymore. Service was incredibly slow and inattentive on a Monday night when the dining room was half empty. None of the food was very good; all six diners complained about their dishes. The flounder, for example, was bland and greasy. Mediocre crab cakes and tasteless rock fish. We will not go back.
