Description: J. Paul’s is Washington’s quintessential turn of the century American Dining Saloon. The J. Paul’s bar in Georgetown is itself a 100 year old mahogany shotgun bar, built by the Brunswick Balke Coolander Company and was previously housed in a grand saloon in the Chicago stockyards. Many will swear over their scotch that Al Capone himself bellied up to that very bar. Antique brass elevator doors from New York’s Waldorf Astoria frame the back dining room. A few short blocks from the Potomac River, in the heart of fashionable Georgetown, the original J. Paul’s has become an institution. Every day, politicians, journalists, artists, business people and Washington personalities share tables with students, tourists and ex-Pats in the nation’s capital. Don't miss out on a visit to this DC institution!

Roberto is awesome as is everyone here. Food and drink is great. Love this place! Fresh oysters and seafood.

Fun place to go with a group in heart of Georgetown. Noisy inside due to wide open dining room. Food is mediocre at best - stick to basics like burgers or fish and chips. Good location.

My daughter and I dined here while visiting Georgetown University. The food was fresh, service friendly and attentive, and the chocolate based dessert delicious. Nice casual bar type atmosphere which was also fun for my high school aged daughter. I'd definitely recommend for a good, relatively inexpensive meal in a friendly restaurant.

When visiting family in Northern VA, we always enjoy a drive into DC and lunch at J Paul's. Today was no exception. Calamari appetizer was delicious. We all enjoyed our meals including a burger, salmon, ribs and crab cakes. Great service, too!

What a fantastic time at the bar! Our bar tender Victor was fabulous. Took good care of us. Would recommend stopping in for a drink.
