I want d a place that I could play with my puppy. This is a great little park, that had children playing with their parents, bikers and skateboarders on the sidewalk, and other dogs. I like the quietness and calm of the park.......even though it is in the center of town.

Unless we missed something, this was just a sunken, green, well manicured, grassy area with a meandering path, a fountain and a few statues. The main gem of the garden was across the street in the refurbished City Hall rotunda... beautifully redone. The park had some homeless people sleeping on the lawn with shopping carts full of their belongings, and a few business people enjoying a lunch break picnic style. Looks like there is a lot of renewing going on in this area with a beautiful bridge just around the corner. I now see that on Wednesday they have a farmer's market but it still is not what I expected for a "garden".

This park is the developing center of downtown activities in Atascadero. It rests in the shadow of the Rotunda or City Hall build if you prefer (see historic registry). During the summer, they offer movies in the park and there is a farmers market that takes place weekly around the park not to mention the misc soccer practices and just general hanging out that happens here every day. There is a new pedestrian bridge that will be connecting the park to the Colony Square soon also.

Lots of activities at Sunken Gardens throughout the year. Well kept area but seems to have a small tendency for transients and homeless to sleep, and loiter there at least during daytime hours. Great place to visit during "Winter Wonderland" and summer family movies in the park is a lot of fun and no cost involved. Nice that the city offers these events.
