We originally intended to launch our kayaks on the upper lake beach, but it was closed for the season. This turned out to be a good thing, because by the time we even got close, working our way upstream from the boat launch by the dam, our tired arms could not fight the current. We would have never made it back had we launched at the beach. That said, we went in April, and were told by locals that they had never seen this much water go over the dam, so the current is likely not normally this swift.
The kayaking itself was absolutely awesome - such peaceful, and stunning scenery! There were lots of little waterfalls rushing down the hillsides, and that was the only sound we heard. On this Friday in April, we had the entire lake to ourselves. What a wonderful place to paddle! Planning to come back in summer.
