“Awesome for kayaking!”
Review of Lake Clementine

We originally intended to launch our kayaks on the upper lake beach, but it was closed for the season. This turned out to be a good thing, because by the time we even got close, working our way upstream from the boat launch by the dam, our tired arms could not fight the current. We would have never made it back had we launched at the beach. That said, we went in April, and were told by locals that they had never seen this much water go over the dam, so the current is likely not normally this swift.

The kayaking itself was absolutely awesome - such peaceful, and stunning scenery! There were lots of little waterfalls rushing down the hillsides, and that was the only sound we heard. On this Friday in April, we had the entire lake to ourselves. What a wonderful place to paddle! Planning to come back in summer.

This is a wonderful hike, and especially scenic this spring after all the rain. You can walk under the Foresthill Bridge and up to the spillway of the dam with beautiful scenery along the way. There are a few narrow spots on the trail, otherwise it is nice and wide for the most part. Beautiful hike!

This weekend my son and I hiked up to Lake Clementine just outside of Auburn, California. The trail is 2.3 miles to the dam with a slight elevation change which made for a nice 5 mile hike. Lake Clementine is along the American River just outside of Auburn and about 30 minutes from my house in Gold River.

We started the hike just as the sun was coming up and we were the only ones on the trail. The weather was nice and no jacket was needed. The hike is along the river and once we got to the dam it was spilling over this time of year making for a beautiful view. On the way back we started to see mountain bikers, joggers and groups of hikers. I'm glad we started when we did. It was nice and peaceful with just us on the trail.

Another cool thing is the trail goes under the Forrest Hill Bridge. It is the highest bridge by deck height in California, and the fourth highest in the United States at 730 feet above the river. The bridge can be seen in the beginning of the 2002 film XXX in which Vin Diesel's character Xander Cage is seen driving a stolen red Chevrolet Corvette off of it, then jumping from the car mid-flight and parachuting to his accomplices at the bottom of the American River Canyon.

One note: It is a state park and parking is $10 in the parking area. There are plenty of trails in the area and we plan on doing a lot more hiking.

Perfect little mountain lake. The boat in camping is very fun and the water is crystal clear mountain water. Pretty cold but good in the summer and fall. The access road is steep, windy and tight so driving in with a big boat is tough, but the water is glass for skiing.

What a beautiful trail and lake, so close to Sacramento/Roseville/etc. Was so surprised to find this a 20 minute drive from Rocklin, teeming with nature! It's got plenty of different options from the Lake Clementine Trailhead, and we did the easiest trail to the Dam, which ended up around 4 miles round trip. The ground was level for the most part, with a few narrow parts and a few rocky parts. Frequented by couples, friends, mountain bikers, and joggers, it's got nature without a lot of the hassle.

The waters are turquoise blue and so smooth, and the trees and rocks are mossy, leaving a very idyllic scene. The long, narrow bridges add to the picture instead of reminding you that you're so close to town still. Great for a day hike!
