We walked the trail from Hwy 49 to the lake. It is a wide path which was a former road. The trail is easy and has no obstacles. The scenery is beautiful and the walk follows the river all the way. At the lake side you do walk on a highway and narrow state park driveway for less than 1/2 a mile.

Upper Lake Clementine is blissful. Although the road down is dusty and texious, you are rewarded by a very tranquil lake that is great for families.

We went kayaking with friends to Upper Clementine Lake- which is actually a dammed up river; hence the slight current.
The road down was dirt and quite torn up. That was livable, but the incline should be a warning. We had a small manual drive car and had a hell of a time getting back out of there. I had AAA on speed dial in anticipation - not cool.
I understand that they were improving the road in mid July- hoping that it true.
Despite the road treachery, you should know this place is amazing. Beautiful scenery and wildlife. Lots of places along the trip to pull up on a sandbar and relax. The water was crystal clear and refreshing.

We originally intended to launch our kayaks on the upper lake beach, but it was closed for the season. This turned out to be a good thing, because by the time we even got close, working our way upstream from the boat launch by the dam, our tired arms could not fight the current. We would have never made it back had we launched at the beach. That said, we went in April, and were told by locals that they had never seen this much water go over the dam, so the current is likely not normally this swift.

The kayaking itself was absolutely awesome - such peaceful, and stunning scenery! There were lots of little waterfalls rushing down the hillsides, and that was the only sound we heard. On this Friday in April, we had the entire lake to ourselves. What a wonderful place to paddle! Planning to come back in summer.

This is a wonderful hike, and especially scenic this spring after all the rain. You can walk under the Foresthill Bridge and up to the spillway of the dam with beautiful scenery along the way. There are a few narrow spots on the trail, otherwise it is nice and wide for the most part. Beautiful hike!
