We stayed here in the winter (January), and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel. Be a little careful, as each room is uniquely different, and has a different view and perspective (and price). We stayed in 301, so had a nice view and a large wrap around deck/patio.

The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. They helped me with Spa reservations, provided tickets to the Casino museum, included the Ferry boat tickets, and helped with ground transportation.

A light continental breakfast was included (boiled eggs, pastries, bagels, cereal, muffins, juice, coffees). We found it to be good enough that we never went out for breakfast, but there are several nice breakfast restaurants if you prefer. Wi-Fi is included and seemed to be working at all times. They have snacks and drinks available, also included.

Go to the rooftop with a cocktail or wine, and enjoy the views. We went up and it was very nice. They have some seats up top, and even a grill. Since it was winter, we were the only ones up there, but perhaps they do more up there in the summer. Seemed like it would be a cool gathering place during the more busy spring and summer months.

Convenient location, can walk to everything and all restaurants, shops, pier, etc.

Overall, I would say the stay was clearly excellent. I would say the rooms were a bit pricey, but that could be for any room, as they clearly only have a fixed amount of accommodations on the island.

Room tip: Look carefully at the rooms on the web. Only some enjoy the great views, and are different sizes and make-up.

I could not be more pleased at our honeymoon stay here on the island!!
Laurie and Tim (inn keepers) and the concierge staff was an absolute dream to work with!!
The weather was especially stormy the week we were coming, and the Avalon kept us informed of local ferry rides/cancellations and options.. We arrived without a hitch thanks to them - and were greeted so warmly at the desk!! I cannot wait to stay here again!!
Absolutely gorgeous resort with the most breathtaking views!! I've never stayed at its equal!!
(And the most delicious little truffles they leave in the room too!!)
The staff was beyond kind.. We felt like family!
Thank you for a spectacular stay we will never forget!

My husband surprised me with a 2 day, single night get away in Catalina for our anniversary. We took the ferry from Long Beach to Catalina Island and stayed at the Avalon Hotel. I cannot wait to go back! One night was not enough!! The help was fabulous! The room was extremely comfortable and we were upgraded to the nicest room because it was available - oh yeah!! The place is well maintained and has a very warm, homey feel to it. Books are all over encouraging adventure reading and the roof top is just begging to be lounged on with all the tables, chairs and grill that look out over a beautiful ocean view. The courtyard is beautiful and the morning continental breakfast was quite good. Highly recommend this hotel for a stay while in Catalina. It was a no hassle, lovely, comfortable stay. When only staying for one night, that was a blessing!!

J-Lynn, thank you so much for this wonderful review! We're glad you had such a lovely time with us, especially on an occasion as special as your anniversary. Enjoying a good book on the rooftop is one of my favorite perks, so I'm happy that caught your eye. Looking forward to welcoming you back soon!

I've made Catalina Island an annual trip for the last three years. I like to stay in different hotels when I visit places, to figure out which one I like. Well, I don't think I need to look any further. This was not only a great spot, but the service was impeccable. All of the workers there were professional, knowledgable, and friendly. One of the only reasons I'm not giving it a higher score is that I like to take showers with good water pressure. I know California is experiencing a drought; however, the water pressure in my room was very poor! So much so that I ended up taking a bath after my shower because I still had soap film on me. That said, this has NOTHING to do with the customer service or anything else. All other aspects of this hotel were a delight. I can see why this place is so highly rated.

Room tip: The upper floor rooms have better views

Thank you so much, Jo! Thank you for the feedback about the water pressure issue you experienced. We have gone through all our shower heads and found a couple with debris. We believe we have solved the water pressure issue that you experienced. We loved having you, and we hope to host you again next time you're in Catalina.

Thanks so much and take care,
