Very comfortable quirkiness

Review of Bowery Inn
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 17 Feb 2020via mobile
We were the only guests and occupied the first room at the top of the stairs: Morning Glory, so this review is slanted. The bed was king size and very comfortable, not too soft. The room is well equipped with a claw-footed tub as well as a tile shower. Nice towels. It’s an 100 plus year old building so naturally the floors creak. We had a quiet 2 nights, but again, with no other guests, can’t speak about sound from other rooms. Very nice to have a washer and dryer to use. Location is superb: near Up the Creek Oyster Bar, the Icehouse has music in the evening and The Chowder House around the corner has wonderful vegetarian/vegan breakfasts and lunches. We enjoyed our stay.

When we pulled up at the bowery inn hub was a bit surprised to say the least as its a small wooden old building with unused space below and the rooms above but i liked it!
The studio below the rooms had been damaged in the previous years hurricane and was being repaired so that will hopefully be up and running soon.
You have a key code to get in to the main building and your room which was all fine. You pick your room from the website so you can see what each room is like. Ours was the forget me not room which was small but ok for a few nights, i wouldn't of picked it if we were there longer, they do have larger rooms too.
It is very old but refurbished without losing the charm of the building. Which means some parts are fragile and need careful handling.
You have a communal kitchen with a shared fridge which was fine and space to cook and eat if you wish.
The main attraction for me was the porch with the chairs as i do like sitting out reading or having a drink watching anything that is going on. In this case not a lot as its at the end of town but a few minutes walk to shops and bars.
If you like everything spick and span don't book here but if you like traditional florida buildings and its only for a few nights then i think you'd like it

We stayed here with 3 other couples so we had all 4 rooms. Nicely renovated building built in 1900. All the rooms are upstairs. There is a common area/kitchen with a small table and seating for 5 people.

The common area needs more seating. The rooms are nice but our bed was too soft. Beware that there is a common HVAC system so there is one temperature option for all rooms. Plus you can hear everything throughout the place including sounds outside the building.

The covered porch is nice but also needs additional seating.

The kitchen has coffee, tea, sweetened and creamers, plates, utensils, cups, glasses, refrigerator and toaster oven. A bottled water cooler would be nice as the local water is not desirable to drink.

If you like quant and quirky, this is a good place. Plus the location is convenient to all the restaurants, bars, shops where you can walk to everything. Bring ear plugs.

We escaped for the weekend and stayed in Harper's Beauty. No TV; no fridge. Just the necessities. Very comfortable and clean. Located away from the busy section but still within walking distance to a variety of restaurants and close to Veteran's Park Love the patios. Beautiful view of the river. Discovered a second third story patio (for two). Great common kitchen and complimentary k-cups and tea. Quiet and peaceful. Don't be fooled when you first drive by. It's a gem!

Room tip: Small and quaint. Rooms are all on the second floor; no elevator. Very old renovated house.

We stayed in the "Harper's Beauty" room, one of the four rooms in the Inn, which is a small, but very cozy and charming room with all necessary amenities. The room was clean and the Inn was very quiet. You will not find a tv or a fridge in the room, but the central kitchen has everything you need if you want to cook for yourself. Not that there is a need for that, you are practically in downtown Apalachicola and within walking distance of some great restaurants or pubs (Oyster City brewpub) .

Room tip: Rooms are on the second floor and no elevator is available.

The Bowery Inn is a hundred-year-old house that’s being restored to much of its former glory. My wife and I stayed in the “Queen of the Night” room for several days and it was wonderfully relaxing! The king-size bed slept great. The large, separate bathroom was a treat. The common kitchen with fridge, microwave, and K-cup coffee maker was convenient. We spent many hours rocking on the 2nd floor porch. At night, we watched the moon and stars from the Crow’’s Nest. The Bowery’s location - just off the main square - is perfect. Everything you need is in easy walking distance for most people. That being said, there are stairs and no elevator, so be advised. We loved our time at The Bowery and hope to return some day!
