My husband and I stayed at the Mahogany Bay resort from July 27 through August 4 and had a wonderful time. We stayed in a garden cottage, which was lovely and very comfortable and the shower was amazing. This resort just opened in December and is not yet complete so the landscaping is not mature, the roads are still gravel and other than some places to eat, there are no amenities like a gift shop, ATM, etc. There are two full service restaurants, the one in the main lobby that belongs to the hotel and a Japanese restaurant that is privately owned. Both are very good. There is a privately owned coffee shop, with wonderful service, where we would stop for a cappucino after dinner. There are also some privately owned "shacks" serving fast food.

Transportation on Amergris Caye is predominantly by golf cart. We didn't rent one, although many others did. You don't need one to get around the resort and if you want to go into town, it's just as easy to have them call you a cab at $10 USD each way. There are plenty of restaurants in town if you tire of the ones at the resort. Town is closeby and easy to get to and from.

The private beach is the gem of this resort. It's a 10-15 minute boat ride from the resort and the boat trip itself is part of the allure. The first time we got off the boat at the beach we felt like celebrities. The water is calm and warm and no more than waist high in the entire lagoon. The beach is so beautiful they did a photo shoot with contestants of Miss Costa Maya while we were there. There is a lot of smelly sea grass in San Pedro but you will find none of it at this beach. It is pristine.

It was the staff, however, that made our stay the pleasure it was. From boat Captains Patrick and Brandon to Marlon at the pool and Miguel and Maria at the restaurant, the service at Mahogany Bay was impeccable. Our vacation was the peaceful and relaxing getaway we hoped it would be and we hope to return to Mahogany Bay for our next vacation.

Room Tip: Cottages are 3 in a row - ask for one furthest from the gravel road.

Dear Paula W,

Thank you and your husband for selecting Mahogany Bay Resort and Beach Club as your base camp on your recent visit to Ambergris Caye. We are glad that you enjoyed your experience and took advantage of the great Food & Beverage options located throughout the Village.

Our staff works very hard to make everyone's visit special and we are glad they accomplished that with yours. We look forward to welcoming you both back in the very near future.

MBR was a great place to stay away from the hustle and bustle of San Pedro. We stayed in a Two Bedroom Townhome, and it was absolutely beautiful. Debbie at the front desk was brilliant, and made sure my entire group was well cared for. The private beach is to die for! Do not miss out on the chance to spend some time out there! Be sure you get panadas from the stand on the main road in and a breakfast burrito from the taco shop!

A few little issues though. There was absolutely no water pressure in our room, so we had to go to a different cottage to be able to shower. Definitely not ideal. It rained when we were there so the dirt roads became mud pits. Mud got everywhere because all the streets around the resort are dirt. The food and drinks are overpriced compared to what you can find right in San Pedro a few minutes away.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the end of the road to avoid street noise, but you will want a golf cart to get around!

Ok, a few things to say about this resort.

Pros:
- Good location, away from the craziness of San Pedro town, but still not too far away by golf cart
- AMAZING private beach. I think just that alone deserves 6 stars
- Very nice pool, facing the sea, nice bar service too
- Small but good and efficient gym
- Very cute colonial style cabanas

Cons:
- Most resort accommodations are along the main dirt road. Which means you can hear the golf carts passing by pretty much all day long. Not exactly a relaxing sleep being awaken by this kind of noise in the middle of the night or early in the morning
- AC in the room. You can set it on a temperature, but when it reaches that temperature, it doesnt stop automatically. If you stop it manually, it gets too hot within minutes. So you are facing with the choice of hearing a noisy AC all night, or sweat.
- Had a couple issues/questions at check in, and front desk seemed more annoyed than willing to help.
- Overpriced restaurant by large

In conclusion, I would only stay there again if I was promised a room away from the dirt road. And the only reason I would, is for that amazing private beach of them that is just stunning! Front desk staff also needs more customer service training.

Dear Borreman

We are sorry that you experienced a few glitches on your recent visit to Mahogany Bay Resort and Beach Club. You may want to reserve a townhome in our sister property, Mahogany Bay Homes on your next visit. All the same amenities but the units do have windows.

We hope we have the chance to welcome you back in the very near future.

I have so many great things to say about Mahogony Bay! Everything from the service to the experiences was top-notch! Let’s start with service. Maria at the restaurant is the best! She is certainly a huge asset to MBV and made us feel right at home. Debbie at the front desk meet us with a smiling face every time we walked through the door of the great house. Patrick our boat captain kept us laughing going back and forth to the private beach. Might I add the private beach is my happy place...heaven on earth. George made sure our transportation was ready when we arrived and the fishing trip reserved in advance of our arrival. When it rained, they happily accommodated a reschedule later in the week. By the time we left we felt like we were leaving family.

Scott, Mike, and Nathan was very accommodating in making sure we had all of our questions about everything to do with Mahogany Bay and the island in general answered. I’m sure I missed someone that made an impact on our stay.

The food...OMG!!! Best food every. The head chef is ranked among the best in the country. The accommodations are just stunning! Most defiantly the nicest place to stay on Ambergris Caye. Considering the whole package of service, accommodations, dinning, beach, experiences not only is Mahogany Bay a 4-Star resort with a 5-Star experience but is a huge value compared to many other family vacation spots in other countries and popular destinations.

I’m a high volume traveler and have a ton of experiences to compare MBV to; I highly recommend Mahogany Bay!
