I spent 5 nights at El Pescador in September 2017. The resort is beautiful. The staff is phenomenal. I do not fish so the staff arranged 3 snorkeling trips. The staff as well as the resort managers, Anne and Ken, were wonderful. Everyone was so friendly, welcoming, helpful, and kind. It was like going on vacation with your family. The food was out of this world-delicious, fresh, with ability to personalize menu. I cannot say enough about El Pescador and wish I was able to stay longer.

This was our second trip to Ambergris Caye and El Pescador. There's lots of good stuff to say: the staff is friendly, charming, and gracious; the fly fishing (if you're into that sort of thing) is fabulous; the guides are great; the rooms are exactly what's needed; the food is excellent; the bar is not far away; and San Pedro the town is worth a visit. The best part though? Hanging out and talking to the other guests. For four evenings at dinner and at the bar I got to hear great stories from great people. That's what El Pescador is built for.

We have just come back to El Pescador and has been an amazing experience. The place, the lodge, the staff, everything was perfect!!!! Was my first fishing trip to the sea and, without doubt we will come back next year. We take with us unforgettable memories.

Room Tip: The villas are a great option.

Great visit to El Pescador. We took advantage of their 2 for 1 summer promotion and I can tell you there is no better value out here. The short review…GO! I have traveled extensively in the Caribbean and the water on the flats here is second to none. Ken and Esa run a top notch fishing program, complimentary casting lessons, they match your fishing guides to your experience and temperament. We wanted patient teaching guides as we were novice fly fisher people. Both Cesar and Jeo worked to improve our cast and help us find fish. We caught numerous bone and hit the elusive grand slam of tarpon, permit and bone on our second day out with Jeo. The longer version: The resort is clean, well maintained, comfortable beds and surprising water pressure for the islands! This is primarily a fishing lodge but there were several non-anglers during our trip and they all enjoyed the property. Note: While the water in front of the lodge is beautiful with the reef breaking about ½ mile out, the beach is filled with grass and swimming there is not great, although I did enjoy a daily dip off the dock. The pool is Oceanside and beautiful. We grabbed a golf cart one day and went to the other side of the island to a beautiful beach where we enjoyed grilled lobster and relaxed. The staff here is very good at helping you plan your days and providing directions.

The all inclusive option includes transport from Belize city by Tropic Air, a scenic 20 minute flight. From the moment you grab your bag on Ambergris Cay someone from the El Pescador family is taking care of you, handing you a cold beer as they transfer you to their private boat for the 15 minute ride to the hotels dock where you are greeted personally by Ken and Ann, bags brought to your room and given a property tour. Casting lessons daily from 3-5. All food and Belizian beer and rum drinks included as well as waters, soda, coffee, no nickel and dimeing. Breakfast and lunch are ala carte off the menu, dinner is family style, talented chef, there was a night with lobster, another with stonecrab, another with grilled beef. Fish always available and the desserts were wonderful. Sides had a nice island influence and reflected local products. Everything including the tortillas are made on property. They will pack your lunch if you are fishing. Fishing is included and you can adjust the number of days you want to fish. We chose 2 and then added snorkeling and a beach day. The boats are perfect for fishing but no shade so come prepared, Some of the runs out to the fishing grounds are long but the time flys as the scenery is so beautiful. Granted we had perfect weather. All in all, a great trip.

We just returned from a glorious 9 days at El Pescador. Though none of us are fly fishermen, my 15 year old son is obsessed with fishing and this trip was perfect for him and all the rest of us! We stayed at one of the villas and just loved the sense of having our own spot but also having all the convenience. We got the meal package and we're all thrilled with the food. Plenty of different choices and all meals pleased different palates.

The staff here were all just amazing. Kind, helpful, knowledgeable and always right there when needed, but gave us all the space we wanted. We enjoyed the paddle boards and kayaks and lots of mellow time hanging out all the bar and multiple pools. And, the masseuse is amazing - don't miss that!

Could not be more happy with our first trip to Belize and with El Pescador. While we didn't become fly fishermen while there, were still talking about coming back with even more family another time!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
El Pescador’s beachfront lodge and villas are situated on over 45 private acres with ambiance, specializing in fishing, diving and eco-adventures. We are family-owned and operated with emphasis on creating camaraderie and an authentic Belizean experience. El Pescador is proud of our philosophy to protect and nurture friendship, adventure and the environment. El Pescador has long been known as a world-class fishing destination offering outstanding flats fishing for bonefish, tarpon and permit. El Pescador has been the only resort on Ambergris Caye specializing in saltwater flats fishing since 1974. Since coming under new ownership in 1997, the resort has established itself as an eco-friendly tropical getaway, including a commitment to offset all carbon emissions generated by its guests flying to Belize. Donations are made on behalf of guests to a local Belizean non-profit organization, Green Reef Environmental Educational and Coastal Research Institute, to offset the carbon emissions used to travel to Belize. El Pescador was also among the key organizations to implement the new Law protecting bonefish, tarpon and permit as catch and release species. This is the most all encompassing legislation of its kind worldwide. It is great news for Belizeans, anglers, tourists and conservationists alike. El Pescador is a serene and gracious establishment on the doorstep of the world’s largest living Barrier Reef. El Pescador offers accommodations in guest rooms within its colonial style, mahogany main lodge, as well as in 1, 2, and 3 bedroom luxury beachfront villas. The villas are perfect accommodations for couples seeking romance and privacy, and for families and small groups traveling together. All rooms and villas are beachfront and have unobstructed views of the Caribbean blue waters. In addition to unequaled fishing, this first-rate resort offers all the eco-adventures which take full advantage of Belize’s exotic flora and fauna. Scuba diving, snorkeling, manatee watching, cave-tubing and zip-lining, and Maya archaeological explorations are just a small assortment of the activities available while staying at El Pescador. ... more   less
