What an amazing second trip with Belize Sailing Vacations. Staying on the Luna Sea with Captain Sarah and chef Breezy was Superb!!! Sarah took us to great snorkeling spots with gorgeous views and several fun islands to explore. She never stopped working to ensure we were safe, on time and in smooth waters all while casting for fresh fish. Breezy went above and beyond to accommodate our two boys (24 &16) our 68 year old father-in-law and us 49 year old selves. She created dishes that were beyond fabulous, rich in taste and filling. Her creations broaden our boys tastebuds and that is not an easy task! This female crew were always smiling, positive and so professional. As the mom on this trip I can honestly say it was so nice having Breezy plan all our meals, keeping everything clean and Sarah cleaning up the boat daily and making decisions on which route to take that I “truly and completely” relaxed the entire week. Literally our favorite vacation!!! We will be back, guaranteed.
Our entire family had an incredible 7-day charter with Sarah and Breezy on the 47' Palometa. Both of our boys, ages 15 and 17, received ASA Sailing Certifications from Captain Sarah and had a great time doing it. She was a wonderful and knowledgeable instructor, fantastic at spearing lobster and fish for dinner, and even brainstormed some very creative poetry for my son's high school English class. Breezy was an amazing chef and managed to keep our always-hungry boys fed and extremely happy with absolutely delicious and healthy food. And we are still trying to duplicate her Belizean iced green tea! We took the southern route and explored beautiful deserted islands, kayaked and paddle-boarded through mangroves, snorkeled through coral reefs and saw colorful fish and rays, and reconnected as a family (without phones, computers, and electronics!) It was spectacular - we can't say enough wonderful things about the trip. Thank you Sarah and Breezy!
Thank you Belize Sailing Vacations for such an unforgettable Thanksgiving week adventure in the beautiful aquamarine waters of the Belizean Cayes!!! We were exceptionally well cared for by Captain JESSE and First Mate KARLA! They were the best sailors, host/hostess, tour guides, fishing guides, and amazing underwater snorkel safaris!!! We dined on Karla’s exquisite meals served with Mexican flare, lots of habaneros, cilantro, and garlic of shrimp, lobster, Spanish mackerel. No turkey to be found on Thanksgiving. Substituted fresh dorado instead! We were in very good hands with Jesse and Karla, their hospitality was super!! So many Cayes and just not enough time!
Our family of 4 (two teenagers age 13 and 16) met at airport by John and shuttled to marina with lots of interesting historical lore. Our accommodations were onboard the lovely 50'catamaran Doris, which was so spacious and clean with 4 bedrms/4 heads. Slept good after funfilled days, and the generators on at nite for A/C! The boat was loaded with stand up paddle boards, kayaks, inflatable for tubing, masks, snorkels, and large dinghy. Jesse had the fishing gear and all the giant lures. All provisions food and beverage were already on board and stowed away (this was so easy having bare boated before!), Karla planning the menu. She accommodated our picky non-seafood eater, who was eating all seafood by the end of the week and today still requests Karla’s fish wraps. Wow, we were well fed with lobster, shrimp, king mackerel, Dorado, chicken and pork tenderloin, with a Mexican/Belizean flare with lots of vegetables, coconut rice. Tasty appetizers with conch and lobster ceviche, pizzas, and cheese boards. And breakfasts banana pancakes, omelets, bagels, muffins, and yogurt and fresh fruits. Drinks were plentiful and we were treated to Jesse’s signature lime pina colada special delivered to our hammocks.
Kids did their PADI Jr and PADI certification dives, having done their online training prior to arriving. BSV arranged a 3 days rendez vous with Belize Diving Services on Caye Caulker. Great instructors, who were very experienced and their love for the sport and safety was apparent. Two huge well stocked dive boats that made the 1-2 hr trip to the atolls quick and comfortable and what a view from the top deck. We had fantastic dives on Turneffe Atoll and Ambergis Caye. Kids saw a hammerhead on their very first reef dive! The reef healthiest we have seen, with so many types of corals, and reef fish, and lots of turtles, barracudas, nurse and reef sharks, eels, and rays. We had many great stops to inhabited islands with a small town, or a resort, and several uninhabited islands as well. Lucky to get a full moon too!
You did not need to dive to see the marine life!! Jesse’s underwater snorkel safaris rivaled the diving. Off the small cayes had pristine corals, staghorn corals, reef fish, puffers, sea turtles, eels, eagle rays, sharks, barracudas, seahorses and humongous tarpons too. Jesse’s spearfishing school, resulted in two fresh lobsters to add to a few conchs for afternoon appetizers. Cleaning conch on the back deck attracted more than 10 huge soaring eagle and manta rays to snorkel with. Dolphin put on a show playing off the bow and did some manatee and crocodile spotting expeditions in the mangroves. Trolling the depths outside the reef was flat sailing and caught barracudas and three of the biggest beautiful green dorados ever seen! What a thrill!
Our days on Doris were a perfect mix of excitement and relaxation. Unbelizeable hospitality. Thank you to BSV for such an amazing vacation in Belize. We hope to return and explore the southern cayes with Jesse and Karla very soon!!!!!
We were blessed to be hosted by Captain Dave and the gourmet chef and first mate, Ellen for a five day adventure. With two young children and a claustrophobic adult, we were unsure of what to expect. However, we were blown away by the familial kindness and ease of adjusting to life on the boat. The food was freshly caught almost every day, suitable to our specific dietary needs, and delicious. The captain was wonderful to include the kids in searching for pirate’s treasure, dance night, storytelling, snorkeling and exploring. It will be the most memorable trip for years to come. Always weather-dependent but well worth it.
Took ASA 114 course aboard a Lagoon 50 - "Doris". Capt Jesse and First Mate Karla made this the most memorable sailing trip I've had. Jesse's personality and style as an instructor is unparalleled - easy going, knowledgeable, a true professional. Karla's culinary skills made daily life aboard "Doris" truly a week to remember.
We had full days of sailing with plenty of time left over for swimming, snorkeling, and hanging out among the beautiful cays along the reef. I highly recommend BSV for anyone wanting to take an ASA course or a private sailing charter. I look forward to sailing with them again.
