“For the airplane enthusiast”

Charles Lindbergh Monument
Reviewed 23 August 2016

A short drive from Americus is the Lindbergh Monument. Rather underwhelming but if you are into aviation it is a pleasant stop on the way to somewhere else. It is located at the Jimmy Carter Airport, where you will see crop dusters working their jobs along with private aircraft.

On our way to Andersonville we stopped here for a quick peek and history lesson. Small monument but interesting read. My son who is 7 actually thought the story of Lindberg was quite interesting. As we sat at the monument I pulled up info and pictures on my phone. Made for a great hour. Worth the side trip if you're close, never know where you'll be back.

On our way to Andersonville we decided to go after a virtual geocache at the local air field which is exactly where this monument is located. Pretty neat place to see.

The site has some interest just from its association with Lindberg but it is just a small airport with the monument of Lindberg on the lawn outside. There is a plaque to read about his learning to solo fly at that spot. If you are right in the area it is worth stopping to see but I would not drive out of my way to visit this site.
