“Just somewhere to stop on the way somewhere else”

Charles Lindbergh Monument
Reviewed 20 February 2017

We had no idea Charles Lindbergh had his first solo flight from here, so it was interesting to stop and see this.

Saw this on Tripadvisor and we were in the area so we thought we'd check it out. There's not much too it, but historical buffs, airplane enthusiasts, or photo lovers might enjoy it. It won't take much of your time if you decide to go. It's right near a very small air field. It's easy to get to, in fact we took pics from our car because it was so hot out (in the 90's with high humidity.) There was nobody else there. The flowers surrounding the statue were pretty.

A short drive from Americus is the Lindbergh Monument. Rather underwhelming but if you are into aviation it is a pleasant stop on the way to somewhere else. It is located at the Jimmy Carter Airport, where you will see crop dusters working their jobs along with private aircraft.

On our way to Andersonville we stopped here for a quick peek and history lesson. Small monument but interesting read. My son who is 7 actually thought the story of Lindberg was quite interesting. As we sat at the monument I pulled up info and pictures on my phone. Made for a great hour. Worth the side trip if you're close, never know where you'll be back.

On our way to Andersonville we decided to go after a virtual geocache at the local air field which is exactly where this monument is located. Pretty neat place to see.
