We stayed at this property for a total of two weeks. Upon clearing customs, we were met and directed to waiting buses by our Transat rep. Although the resort is only 20 kms from the airport, it takes almost an hour to get there due to the poor condition of the roads.

Upon arrival, were were met by some entertainment staff and provided a welcome cocktail. Check in was quick and simple, and were directed to the buffet to have a bite to eat if we wished (note: the buffet opens early on arrival/departure days). Luggage arrived soon thereafter (it travels separately in a cargo van) and we headed to our room.

THE ROOM:
We reserved an "Ocean View" room as part of our package. Our room was around a 2 min walk to the lobby, 3 min to the buffet and about 7-8 min to the dive shop. The rooms are all quiet, self contained cabanas. Our room had a king size bed (I believe 2 doubles are also available), a spacious deck overlooking the ocean, and large bathroom. The bathroom is well appointed with double sinks, a bidet and walk in shower. Our only negative regarding the bathroom was the lack of water pressure in the shower. Toilet and sinks appear to have ample pressure but not the shower. As well, it may take upward of 5 min to get how water to the shower, so be patient.

As for the rest of the room. The mattress could use an upgrade is it is VERY firm. As well, the linens (towels, sheets, comforter) are about due for replacement as they are showing their age.

Our room was well looked after by cleaning staff, and was usually attend to before noon each day. However, our room was probably due for a deep clean with cobwebs starting to gather in the corners.

Lighting in the room was a little sparse in certain areas and not sure if our ceiling fan light bulb was burnt out or not functioning at all.

THE FOOD:

Main food service is provided by the buffet. The buffet is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but not all day. There is a snack bar open starting at 11 am, and is open till dinner. There is an "a la carte", however it is not a dedicated restaurant. It is a roped off area of the main dining room with a small menu. As well, the menu does not change from week to week.

Food was acceptable (not excellent, but by no means terrible). Breakfast is the same every day with bread selection, eggs, breakfast meats, beans, and fruit selection. Oatmeal and cold cereals were also provided.

Lunch changes daily but seems to always include pizza, soup, fries and a variety of cold items.

Dinner usually has a theme and always includes at least two meat dishes (pork, chicken or beef) Seafood hits the menu at least twice a week. Soup, bread and several veg dishes.

The snack bar serves tacos, fried chicken, fries and occasionally sandwiches.

NOTE: My wife and I had beef on two separate occasions (lasagna and hamburger); both resulting in multiple trips to the bathroom. No such reactions from the pork or chicken.

A word regarding the water. Most tap water in Roatan comes from wells which produce brackish (partial salt) water, and is non potable. Soap and shampoo seem to work OK, but you never quite feel clean due to the salt. If you are a water drinker BRING YOU OWN TRAVEL MUG as you are only provided with two small bottles of water per week that you are expected to refill on you own. Potable water is available at several coolers, as well as the bars.

Bar Service:

There are two bars on site. The restaurant bar, and the pool bar. Bar service is from 11am to 11pm. Selection is sparse, including only rum, vodka, tequila, one type of beer and red/white wine. Only pop and slush are available for mix (no orange, milk, or tomato/clam). The bar wine is undrinkable, however there is a wine store on site if you prefer better wine. If you're a wine lover, we did see several groups bring multiple bottles of wine from the duty free...well played.

Pool/Beach:

There are two pool areas. One right next to the buffet (upper), and one closer to the beach (lower). The upper area provides near all day sun, and ample locations to lounge. There is also several pool cabanas available for use. The lower area has a lot of shade and is the quieter area. Note: There is no hot tub or spa on the resort.

There are two beach areas to choose from; one with a larger beachfront with lounge chairs and a smaller one without. There is a raised deck area that overlooks both beaches; one provides partial shade throughout the day the other does not have a pergola . The larger beach is still small (maybe 200 ft/ 75 m long) and has 20-30 beach chairs to choose from. The beach has small stones present upon entry followed by larger rocks as well as some seaweed, but is otherwise nice. The larger beach is where you can procure the sea kayaks if you wish to paddle out for a while.

There is always music playing, but nothing too loud or distracting.

There are activities throughout the day including, Yoga, aqua sizing, volleyball (pool and beach). Activity staff are engaging, but not pushy. They put on a themed show every night including a karaoke night. There is also the local show from the first inhabitants of the island; Garifuna.

THINGS OF NOTE:

-WIFI is now available through three hot spots, and not just in the lobby
-There is a small store on site that you can purchase snacks, tobacco, and other small items.

Room Tip: Ocean View room appear to be closer to the reception area/ buffet. Ocean Front rooms are closer to the dive shop.

This little resort is situated in a beautiful area. The vegetation is lush and the grounds are well cared for. The rooms are in need of repair but they offer generous size and privacy. The food is average but they do try to offer some variety over the week. There is one a’la carte and it is situated off to the side of the buffet area. The food was good and hot and worth booking. The buffet food was often only just warm.

This resort’s practices puzzled us a little as it claims to be an eco resort but when we arrived to our room after check in the TV was on as was the AC and lighting. Friends in our party also found the same. We were provided two small bottles of water at the beginning of the trip and we were required to refill these in the lobby as needed. We purchased a larger bottle in the store so it was a little easier. Though this is was a pain we could appreciate the recycling aspect. The contradiction here is the resort serves beverages in paper cups with straws by the pool and beach which we found very surprising for an eco resort on a protected reef. This actually disturbed us a fair bit and we thought reusable plastic would have been a much better option.

The fridges were not stocked with any beverages. We found this very poor and there were no coffee makers in the room. In fact if you wanted coffee before 7am you had to purchase it in winery which opened anytime between 6-7am. The alcohol selection at the bar is poor and low quality; if you want anything of better quality you can purchase it in the winery. I don’t know how expensive this was but I imagine it was not cheap as a bottle of (not great) wine was $14 US. Alcohol is served between 11am-11pm.

The dive shop was good. The staff were pleasant but if you are a diver with limited experience you better have a good buddy. The dive masters range from good to poor for checking on you and providing direction during the dive. That said they were quick to respond to situations they saw and they did so effectively.

Overall I would recommend this resort as the staff are pleasant and most try hard to make your stay memorable. Service at the pool and improvements in the few things mentioned above could elevate this resort to the next level. The landscape of Roatan is gorgeous and we will definitely return to the island again in another area to do more diving.

We ventured out with a little bit of concern about the weather, food, and rooms based on other reviews.
We found our experience to be positive and would return again, if we were just looking for a place to relax and not do any diving (our experience at the dive shop was not so great!).
The staff are exceptional and are always smiling and helpful from the front desk to anywhere in the resort.
Usually when we travel, we plan our trips around the diving. Most of the time the diving makes our vacation but not this time. The resort made our vacation and I thank the staff so much for being professional, charming and happy and for taking care of our every need during our stay.
We found the rooms to be a little in need of some repairs but they are not so bad that nothing is working. They need some sprucing up and some minor repairs to make them a 5 star in my opinion. We stayed in an Oceanview Cabana (#139) and found it centralized to the main resort and the dive shop. We were far enough to not hear anything at night, but close enough to get where we wanted to go with ease.
The rooms are always cleaned well, and the housekeeping staff are friendly and efficient.
Kenny at the bar takes care of you well. He is a bundle of sweetness and even when busy, keeps smiling. We had a couple of little line-ups with this one and only bar at the resort but nothing that ever concerned us as they serve you fast and usually the back-ups were caused by guests not knowing what they wanted when they got up there. It would be nice to have a few staff taking drink orders at the pools, but getting off my lounge chair once in a while was not unbearable.
The pools are clean and well cared for, and Leonardo takes care of anything else you need while there. The decks need some sprucing up but they are safe and sturdy, just looking a little worn.
We only ever had one issue getting fresh towels and that was due to a heavy rain storm that came through and everyone needed fresh towels at the same time. Not a problem for us, we got fresh towels in the morning.
The weather was fabulous! We had a few rain storms come through that passed fairly quickly. The wind was constant and has some positives but the water was pretty rough during our stay.
We 100% enjoyed the entertainment team. These young people work so hard and we truly appreciated everything they did to make our stay enjoyable. They work as a team and it is obvious that they love what they do. The hours they put in, the energy, the friendliness and the caring. They are wonderful ambassadors for the Media Luna and for Roatan. The shows in the evening are quite enjoyable, well thought out and choreographed. There is something for everyone and I found more guests willing to get involved and have some fun then at any other resort we have been to.
The beach was not my thing, a little small but it is functional. There are so many choices for areas to sit that we were happy not to be on the beach. We never had a problem finding lounge chairs and Leonardo was always happy to grab us some chair pads when we wanted them.
The first couple of days, we enjoyed sitting on our porch at the cabana in the evening. This is where I got some mosquito bites and learned to apply Deep Woods Off in the evenings. Nothing so different from home in the summer.
My husband had a massage at the spa and enjoyed it.
All in all, If you are looking for a place to relax and regroup then I would highly suggest this resort. If you are looking for a party, not the place for you.
There are two things that could be better in my opinion and would elevate this resorts status- #1 would be to spruce up the cabana’s #2 would be to have some servers taking drink orders around the pools and beach areas.

Room Tip: Loved our Oceanfront #139

We went with 8 people- two children aged five and three. This resort is good for children of that age. The weather was good. It rained a bit almost every day but for the most part was sunny- this is very important at a resort where your mainly go to relax and snorkel or scuba. The food - everyone in our group was satisfied and two of our group thought it was excellent. I thought it was ok. The cabanas are nice -spacious and much more charming than in a large hotel complex. The snorkeling is very good from the dock near the dive shop. The staff are friendly and energetic. The entertainment was Ok considering that the resort is small and a bit isolated so they don't get the big acts that other resorts may get. If the management is reading this, I suggest that for one night they simply have a disc jockey or just some pop music and I am sure people will dance. We hired a driver (Alvaro) with a van for a day excursion who I recommend. He is much less expensive than a taxi, excursion or other drivers that you can get through the hotel. Call +50498226724. He will take you where you want to go or he can suggest places. You will have to walk about 4 minutes to the parking to get picked up because they do not let drivers come directly to the hotel lobby entrance. We went to Daniel Johnsons which has sloths, monkeys and parrots. The attraction is that you get to hold these animals. It is $10 per person and good value, with children under 5 free. We also went to the iguana sanctuary which is only about 2 minutes from Daniel Johnsons. It also is $10 with children free. We went to the Punta Gordo which is a village where some of the original settlers live. It was in the wrong direction and not really worth it just to see the village. West end was interesting but very busy even when there were no cruise ships in port (Try not to go to the west end or west bay when the cruise ships are in). The beach at Infinity Bay in West Bay is really good for snorkeling. All in all the resort was much more natural than a big resort. We even saw an armadillo.

Room Tip: The hill cabins are really weak- small with no charm.
