Review of T.R.R. Cobb House

T.R.R. Cobb House

Don't miss this antebellum home that exhales the breath of Georgians who shaped their fine state. Life, death, love, children, family, honor, law and war have happened between these walls.

The T.R.R. Cobb House is truly a treasure in the downtown historic district in Athens. If these walls could talk, I'm sure they would say many extraordinary things!

This house was the home of Thomas Reade Rootes Cobb, who is considered one of the 'first citizens' in Athens. Just as this amazing home has a unique history, so does Cobb, who was a lawyer, author, educator and a military leader during the Civil War. You will find the history of both the home and the Cobb family as you walk through the many elaborate and beautiful rooms, especially the Octagon Rooms. The hardwood floors are original to the home, as well as much of the furniture.

It took my friends and I a little over an hour to tour the entire house, as we spent some time to talk to our guide about the history of Cobb's family. It is worth the trip to see this magnificent house and to learn about the history. So bring your camera and enjoy the history lesson (especially about how the home was broken into pieces and moved twice...) :)

Happy Museum Hunting!

This was has been dismantled and moved TWICE. Beautiful home of the period with a LOT of history. The flooring, the period pieces, the history -- worth the trip. So glad house was brought back to Athens and restored as a public historic house museum.

A historic house museum that shows how life was back in 1844. Compared to the present time how life was shared inside a house.

Thanks heavens this house was saved from destruction, so many old houses in Athens were removed for "progress". It is a lovely house with unique architecture. Well worth the visit - lots of period furniture and even a beautiful 18th century dress. the archeology display upstairs is also very interesting
