We visited the palace in early morning but already quite many tourist over there. The mosaic wall was very beautiful. The guide explained very clearly what is the symbol stand for of each pattern. Very interesting to know the history.

We stumbled across this beautiful palace whilst wandering through the residential parts of the old medina. The lady who lives here gave us an educational tour of this lovely home which has obviously seen better days but is still a home as evidenced by the modern toiletries in the the late 19th century bathroom. Many of the original fittings ( including original English porcelain washbasin set in a broken Onyx surround, toilet and bath ) are still there and this combined with glimpses of exquisitely carved and painted woodwork and mosaics gave the place an almost magical air. There were no other visitors when we were shown round and this added to the charm. The palace is home to Abdul who paints abstract acrylics which are on sale to help raise more money to restore more of the building but there was no pressure whatsoever to buy them - even though we did. I particularly liked the eclectic collection of cameras hung on an ancient piece of furniture in the gallery covered by the dust of decades in a way that would have interior designers drooling. Go here - you will not be disappointed by the 25 Dirhams it costs for the experience.

This slightly faded palace came to life and became my highlight of the trip when our guide ( who lived and had been brought up here) opened up the doors and shutters and showed us the rooms inside. Without her guiding we would have had no idea what was there. The stories behind the different rooms, the natural dies and colours on the wood work and the beautiful tile mosaics as well as the french style kitchen and radiators were fascinating. The rooms were stunningly beautiful in a slightly faded way. Definitely worth a visit.

Fascinating - the grand palace of a rich and powerful family in Fes. It fell into disrepair when the family's fortunes declined and what you see now is the result of years of restoration (still incomplete) by the present occupiers. More interesting than a perfectly preserved museum piece - don't miss it while you're in Fes!

Beautiful old palace with amazing mosaics! Cost 25 dirham per person but came with a short tour, got to see old bedrooms, baths, and kitchen, and the artist who lives there's studio. Not crowded and well worth a visit!
