Don’t miss this if you are in Tana. A fascinating architectural site. Ask for Martin. Martin is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the political, cultural and architectural history of the Rova. He was a joy to tour this site with.

Really interesting history and architecture but it's the views over all of Tana that are the main draw. Take a local guide (I think it's mandatory anyway) as they're very knowledgeable and speak decent enough English.

This Queens Palace was beautiful in all its glory but now it is a burned out shell of what it used to be. Only the concrete exterior remain but still a beautiful castle. You have to take a guided tour to have any idea about what is going on, but be aware that they try to take advantage of the tourist by telling you that you owe a HUGE tip after you have paid for the tour. Of course a tip is just that but they get very mad if you refuse to tip the amount they are asking for...who asks for a specific tip amount anyway??????
The view from above is beautiful... This tour only takes 30-45 minutes and is worth the drive up the mountain.

Having seen the palace before the fire I am a bit jaded in my opinion. It's a shame that the original structures have not been rebuilt. Our guide's command of English was marginal. The entry fee was a bit steep and then add another 50% for the guide fee. Great view if not too much smog.

The Queen's Palace and the surrounding grounds were an interesting view into the history of Madagascar. My husband enjoys historical landmarks and especially remembers the church. It was nice to be able to look down on Tana and view all the rest of the city.
