De Chai is a great hotel with excellent service, clean rooms and easy access to shopping and adventures. However, as much as I would have liked to give it 5 stars, I can't. The sign on the hotel as you walk in says "This is a non-smoking hotel", however, 4 nights out of our 6 night stay, smoke filled the air in our room forcing us to turn off the a/c. Their is a smoking fee of 2,000 baht/night. The staff were gracious to find us two fans to sleep somewhat comfortably but unfortunately it wasn't the greatest. They also moved the smokers to another room but to no avail. It continued to flow through the vents. My daughter coughed throughout the night and the four of us felt the smoke in our noses and chest throughout our stay. Again, I want to stress the staff are very helpful, kind, always smiling, but if you advertise as a non-smoking hotel, then it's best to stay as that.

The hotel is not that big (Only 5 floors) and doesn't have many facilities, but, this is one of the best hotels iv'e stayed !
The rooms are modern and clean - Very comfortable bed, Iphone/Ipod dock station, LCD TV and a big batch and shower.
The staff is very polite and helpful, ready to fulfil your requests.
The location is very nice, a short walk brings you to a nice restaurants and bars area (We will recommend on "River Side" restaurant).

We are very satisfied and will recommend you to go to this hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms are good :)

The hotel staff is very nice, polite and helpful.
Location of the hotel is good, not far from restaurants, night market and most area too.
Wifi is all over the hotel is a big plus.
Decoration of the room is better than I expected.
Also, is a small boutique hotel and not crowded with people at all.
I will return here again.

If you have a little money to spend, or you are on a business trip, or on your romantic weekend for 2 this hotel is really good. Its close to the old gate but in a really quiet street next to a temple. The entrance is great, the pool is cute and small and the rooms are massive and really luxurious with shower, separate bath, comfortable bed, flatscreen tv....everything is there. Even complimentary coffee, tea and water

We stayed at De Chai for 3 nights and were extremely happy with our experience. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful with providing recommendations and their knowledge of local restaurants and sights. They recommended us a private driver and guide while there (Ask for Mr Chai if you intended on a private driver!), which in turn actually saved us money and allowed flexibility for us to see what we wanted instead of joining tour groups.
The room itself was clean and very spacious, the free wifi was great, and the hotel spa was great and of good value. The buffet breakfast was adequate but the restaurant was on the small side so if you arrived for breakfast during a busy rush, you will need to be seated in the outside section.
Overall, we were extremely happy with De Chai and the service it offered which in turn made our visit to amazing Chiang Mai even more enjoyable.

Room Tip: Our room did only have one small window but since we didn't spend much time there, it wasn't...
