We were upgraded from deluxe rooms to suites, so our experience was even better than anticipated. The suites were spacious and elegant. The deluxe and superior rooms are not as nicely appointed but still clean and nice. The hotel is in an ideal location with great views of the city and mountains, and is small enough that the staff got to recognize us quickly, which always makes a stay that much nicer. The included breakfast was excellent. The beauty salon/spa is small but perfect for a foot massage, pedicure, or other restorative services at the end of a long day. The onsite travel agency with representatives in the lobby (Heyday) was very helpful and we booked a number of tours and cars and drivers through them for day trips. Coming in on a Sunday to find the outstanding Sunday market just down the street was a delightful surprise -- one of the best night markets we visited in Thailand. There is also an excellent small Italian restaurant in the alley behind the restaurant which was perfect for wine, good food, and people watching on the 2 table outside terrace. We loved Chiang Mai, and the Rydges was a large part of the reason why.
