This place was a delightful and charming Boutique Hotel, tucked away in a narrow alleyway, and comes complete with colonial-style décor and furnishings. The Grounds, the Pool area and the Lobby are clean and maintained immaculately. The Garden was lush green with lots of flowers, and was so soothing to look at from the balcony of our room. The Lobby with the tall columns is impressive, and the little areas for small groups to chat are a nice touch.

We had wanted a quiet place not too far from the Restaurants and the Markets, and this home-away-from-home fit the bill perfectly. Their very convenient courtesy Tuk Tuk service a few times every day takes guests to where they want to go. When guests arrive to check in, they are greeted with cold towels and a refreshing drink. They are then escorted to their rooms, where they explain how everything works. The welcome bowl of fruit, replenished daily, is such a beautiful gesture.

Our Room on the second floor was a good sized one and came with a comfortable bed, a little sofa for two people, an armoire, a safe, a working table and room to spread out a little bit. Little Victorian knick-knacks adorned every table – something we have not seen in a hotel before. The Bathroom could use a little upgrading, and I know that standards are a little different in Asia, but, the one thing we found very unusual here was the reusable Bar-Soap and the refillable Shampoo and Conditioner, which does not change from one guest to the next. Thank Goodness we are in the habit of carrying our own stuff.

The Breakfast Café is small, but the food selections are varied and tasty – they have everything from breads and cakes to Eggs and Rice, to be topped off with yogurts and fruits. Everything looks lovely on the Blue-and-White China and cut - glass dishes. It was a wonderful way to start out our day, without worrying about stopping somewhere for a decent meal. We also had lunch on our arrival day, and the a la carte dishes were tasty and perfectly prepared according to our specifications.

One of the features that will always stay in our minds is the attitude and the behavior of the Staff. From check-in to check-out, they could not have been better, more polite, or more courteous. They all treated us like royalty every time they crossed our paths.

On my birthday, when we returned from a day of touring, they gave us a little time to freshen up, and then a whole contingent of them arrived at our door with a large birthday cake with lit candles, sang "Happy Birthday", and took a lot of pictures which they e-mailed to us later. It was such a pleasant and unexpected surprise. We were just swept away.

Needless to say, we loved our three day stay here, and will have no hesitation in returning, or recommending it to future travelers. Sawadee-Ka Puripunn! Until we meet again!!

After Bangkok we'd expected Chiang Mai to be less crowded. Not so. However, this hotel close to the city is as tranquil as the temple spaces you will find throughout Chiang Mai. All the staff have the right balance of care for all their guests, they are an exceptional team. The setting, the buildings & the design are all traditional and can be friendly spaces (as with the pool area during the day) or intimate as with the garden restaurant in the evenings. Helpful too when making plans for trips in the area & with a regular tuk tuk service into to town. Highly recommend this comfortable & friendly hotel.

Room Tip: First floor room

We visited Chaing Mai for a week and stayed in this perfect hotel. It is like an oasis of calm yet is only 5 minutes tuk tuk tide from the city centre. The staff are wonderful - never without a smile. Food is perfect - great breakfasts and the two suppers we had were excellent. This was a great find for us - can’t recommend it enough.

This hotel is understated elegance. The grounds are impeccable, the landscaping and pool area beautiful, and the staff couldn't be better- friendly and incredibly helpful. Our room and bathroom were a bit small but very comfortable. The breakfast was fresh and delicious with ample choices available. We had the pleasure of meeting the hotel owner at breakfast one morning and after we meeting him we understand the staff's attitude- they are a perfect reflection of the owner. He was friendly, chatty and offered suggestions as we were there during the Lantern Festival. The only thing we had difficulty with was the stairs-we were in a second floor room and there is no lift. If you have difficulty climbing stairs ask for a first floor room- we were unaware of the stairs when we booked and no first floor rooms were available when we arrived. We would definitely return to this gem.

The Puripunn could not have been more lovely! From checkin to check out, it is a wonderful experience. The beds and linens are so comfortable and the ambience was so wonderful. We booked many excursions through the concierge at the hotel and all ended up being great. The buffet breakfast is plentiful and delicious. We can not say enough about The Puripunn and would not hesitate to stay there again.
