This hotel does not give the service that you can ask for from a 5 star hotel.

It does not fulfil the expectations

The location is close to the night market. Not in the middle of the city but not so bad, a quiet area with beautiful front and a big garden behind the hotel.

The lobby is nice but looks like all other 5 star hotels.

The porters have a lot to do so you can not expect any attention. They are too few and often occupied with other customers.

The staff did not follow us up to the room as they do in other 5-star hotels and also in Shangri-La in Bangkok.

When we called to ask about why noone follow us up to the room they could not answer us. The person I spoke with promised to come back, but never did.

Then we called again to ask after 3 hours they said that someone should follow up to the room, its standard – but still this service was not provided for us.

In the restaurant the attention was also very bad. We never had a chance to pay but had to go to the cashier and look for staff.

One of us was vegetarian and was served meat.

We spoke with the duty manager about our thoughts and he was nice and correct but never came back to us during our stay with an answer to our questions. We think its better to let a hotel know any problem during the stay. But in this case the dont care.

The standard room are very standard so if you stay there choose the premier room with a sofa. Very nice room.

Free internet in the room.

We also choosed the upsell to the lounge (Horizon club). In this lounge you are not being served anything but have to get everything yourself. One person in staff was nice and helpful.

You choose to stay at a 5 star hotel to get some extra, but not on this hotel. It is not worth the money.

We stay more then 70 nights each year at hotel and can notice the differences.

After 2 weeks we get a mail from the hotel when they write sorry, but nothing more who give us the trust back for this hotel. So stay at another hotel in this city beacuse you dont pay to get this bad attention on a 5 star hotel.

we were only here for one night im sorry to say, but what a great place it was. we were just coming from 4 nights on an elephant camp and thought it would be nice to stay at a "fancy" place. well that it was. we were booked on the horizon club level room 1224. the club level check in was great super fast. after check in and dropping our stuff in the room we went back to the club for a snack. they had a bunch of juices and drinks set out with all different kinds of snacks and little sandwiches which were very yummy. then in the night they added cocktails, beer & wine along with hot appetizers. the next day we were on an all day tour and i had asked for a "late check out" which they granted, 5pm. even after check out we were allowed to stay in the club and wait for our plane. the room was nice and big with bath and shower, and all kinds of little soaps and things. the breakfast that was included could be either eaten in the club on the 11th floor away from the riff raft or eaten downstairs in the rest. the morning buffet was FANTASTIC, wow. im really sorry we didn't stay longer i could have eaten breakfast there for days. it really was nice. the reason we decided to eat downstairs was because the rest opened at 6am and our tour pick up was 6:45...but i was happy to eat downstairs. over all this was a great place and the price we paid 5,200 bht was a steel for what we got. i would stay here again for sure.

Travelled to Chiang Mai with my husband and can honestly say the Shangri La is probably the nicest hotel we've ever stayed in. The room itself was beautiful furnished with silks, a massive bed and both a bath and shower. We booked a Horizon Club room which was more than worth the extra as it gave access to the club room and this provided breakfast, nibbles and drinks throughout the day and wine and food early evening - all free of charge. It was all tip top quality and made our stay. The two concierge girls Bow and Nangtuck could not do enough for us and were so sweet. They arranged a car for the day (about £30) and the driver (Kai) was marvellous. He took us to Waterfalls and to cuddle Tigers (You've got to do this!!!) plus Orchid farms and literally anywhere we wanted. He also took us to a lovely place down by the river for a final drink before we went back to the hotel. All in all an enchanting stay at a fabulous hotel. You really won't regret booking this. Forgot to mention, the location is great too. Within walking distance of the night bazaar and many other attractions - loads of bars, restaurants etc. Use the red Song Taos (a type of covered truck/taxi). You simply stick your hand out at the roadside, tell them where you want to go, hop in the back with up to 6 other people and they drop you at the door all for 40 pence !!
ONE WARNING:- Do not visit PONG YAENG elephant camp - they are horrible to the elephants - they hit and made one bleed with a sharp hook while we were there and charged us £50 for one hours ride. An upsetting experience in an otherwise perfect holiday.

Sangri-la in Chiang Mai is a truly 5 star hotel. Elegant decor, clean, excellent food and wines, friendly and professional staff, well kept garden, good location near the night market.

We had a wonderful stay in this hotel, which is a total surprise amongst a lot of shabby looking buildings on the road it is situated on.

We were there for three nights and ate in the Kad Kafe every night. It is amazing value for money and the buffet selection is all top quality.

this was our second hotel on a trip to Thailand and as we found in the first hotel, there was nothing in the hotel we could find fault with.

We were upgraded to a Horizon club room, which gave us access to a lounge where they served drinks (alcoholic, soft and hot) and snacks every evening, it was a great way to wind down before dinner after a very hectic day sightseeing.
