During our recent vacation in Ko Samui from 26 – 30 May 2017, we ate dinner twice at this Thai/Chinese seafood restaurant located in the Chinatown area, about 5-8 minutes’ walk from our hotel in Chaweng beach area. Touted as the biggest seafood outlet in Ko Samui and with a wide range of exotic seafood on display for diners to choose, this 9-year old restaurant attracted large crowds of Chinese tourists ranging from big families to groups of smartly-dressed youngsters, who came mainly for the fresh seafood on display; there was also a handful of foreigners and locals enjoying their seafood dishes. On both occasions, we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. In addition to our barbequed red snapper and cuttlefish, we ordered some of the simple yet delicious fares such as fried green vegetables with chilli and salted fish, fried omelette with minced meat, chilli cuttlefish and the famous Pad Thai with prawns, tofu, crushed peanuts and lime – which were all tasty and cooked to our liking. We especially enjoyed the red snapper with its fresh and tender meat beneath its deflowered and crispy skin. Despite the large crowd of diners at the restaurant and against fierce competition from its nearest rival directly opposite the restaurant, and other eating outlets along this famous food street, service at this restaurant was friendly, courteous and relatively fast. This is due in large part to its spacious open-concept kitchen where diners can watch the dozen or so chefs in fiery action with their woks and clanging pots and pans churning out plates after plates of mouth-watering dishes. Our dining experience on both occasions can best be described as : delightful and memorable. Mit Samui is open from 11.00am to 11.00pm and is highly recommended for fresh and tasteful seafood as well as for its delicious local Thai fares.
