Initially we planned to stay at Bich Duyen during our whole stay in Ho Chi Minh City, but it was booked out for the last three nights when we were there. The stay at this hotel was a very pleasant experience.

Chanh is friendly and always ready to help. He arranged airport pick up, carried our luggage upstairs, searched for info on bus routes for us... Every morning we saw his smiling face, which made a nice start of our day in HCM.

In addition, the exchange rate he offers is usually better than that at a currency exchange agency.

The walls are bit thin. In the morning, we could hear the chef getting ready in the kitchen downstairs, people chatting in the lobby and even Chanh's singing :-)

But we paid around USD10 for a double room with breakfast for two. For this price, we can't complain.

I went to HCMC with my friend for a total of 10 days and stay in Bich Duyen hotel.. My experience was great! Here are the good/not-so-good analysis:

Good:
+ The hotel is clean and well maintained.
+ bit hidden, which is good as its away from the noisy main streets
+ well located.. everywhere is walking distance (HCMC isnt that big anyway). Very close by there are good ole traditional Vietnamese food + westen food
+ free breakfast and custom order! Cant beat that... also sometimes in the afternoon, free drinks too to cool down from the hot weather!
+ There is a computer with internet access. For those who dont want to bring your laptop on vacation, you wont be completey cut off
+ Price!
+ Chong was GREAT!! He is always high spirited and extremely helpful! Arranged taxi for us and cheaper than ordering thru the travel agency on the way back to hotel. He waked up at 4:30AM!! to help get me out ....
+ In some hotel, you feellike you are the only there and it can get creepy. With this hotel, I honestly feel more like I am staying with friends ( I was at 1st floor above the lobby, so I can hear ppl coming in /out + chatting at times). It eased my nerve honestly... not to mention most ppl are not the crazy party type. They are very normal and friendly people. love it!

Not-so-good:
- one of the entrances into the alley of hotels looks bit dark. When it rains some other neighboring hotels pour water onto the street. Bit messy
- No elevator (I cant complaint too much cuz I am at the 1st floor. Not sure about those who cant climb stairs)
- I dont think the replace bedsheet daily (but fresh towels everday). I am not too concern as I dont do that at home anyway. Some might have different expectation
- not too many windows in the hotel room.

In anyway I really enjoy my stay .. paid 25 per nite and since I splitted it with my friend, that was 13/nite. Cant complain at all~!! I woudl definitely go back to them!!

I read about this hotel from a tourist's blog and called the hotel to book a room. Chanh assured me several times it's very quiet. This was important as I had stayed in a hotel in Hanoi that was just above the really noisy streets, and which had noisy guests and where the doors' slamming echoed loudly. I was sceptical when Chanh said it was very quiet as this was only a budget hotel along the streets.

When I first arrved, I was surprised to see a guest walking about the lobby [ boutique size] barefooted. I thought that was because he loved the tropical climate so much! Soon I was asked to remove my shoes to keep the place clean *.*I was more than willing as this meant that the staff were very particular about cleanliness, quite unlike the Hanoi one. The room and toilet were indeed very clean. I walked about barefooted even though slippers were provided. The toilet / shower was divided by a shower screen, rare for this price.

And it's true--it's very quiet. I couldn't hear the tv from the next room, which was opposite mine, separated by quite a long corridor. Due to bulding laws, the hotel was narrow but deep, which meant there was no room next to mine and only 1 room opposite. I could turn on my tv loudly!

Speaking of tv, I was very impressed by the programmes. I could watch CNBC and Bloomberg which was broadcasting depressing news of the American sub-prime crisis.
As I'm not into food, I liked the plain breakfast--a crispy bagutte, egg and home-made pineapple juice. The juice was especially refreshing after my trips. Remember to ask for it!

This being a new hotel, the A/C was so cold that I slept without it as the nights were still cool. The windows were small and looked out to the back of buildings. Ask for a lower level if you don't like the stairs. As I paid only US$18 per night, these were really nothing compared to its cleanliness, newness, convenience and efficient running. Do book early as it was fully booked when I was there, even though Lonely Planet had not found it yet.

Bich Duyen was the first place that we stayed on our trip to Vietnam. We booked a room here due to the praise it received on this website and we were not disappointed.

We stayed in two different kinds of room during our stay here. The first was a very large room (with a double and a single bed) for $25. This was probably one of the nicest rooms in which we stayed during our trip, but because we were on a budget, we decided to opt for a cheaper room for our third night. This room was $16 and just had a double bed and did feel a little bit cramped. It was located within the centre of the hotel and thus did not have any windows looking out (just one looking into the corridor). If you can afford it, then we would definitely advise going for the more expensive room (which was considerably nicer and more comfortable).

The location of Bich Duyen is great, slightly tucked away but still in the heart of all the action, and the guy who runs it is great - an invaluable source of information and advice. His English is amazing, although we did feel he was working far too hard! We were really pleased that we decided to stay here.

I had just return from my trip at Ho Chi Minh city on Monday, 28th July which happened to be my birthday. As this was my first solo trip and in conjunction with such a meaningful day, looking for the perfect place to stay was very important and this place had it all. The room is clean, people are friendly, Chanh was great in assisting me with the places to go, before even I was in Vietnam and it is within walking distance to the restaurants, great street food, travel organizer, pubs and so forth.

The value of the money is there for the room and services that you get. Highly recommended.

I definitly will go there again next year and will be staying at the same place.
