We were picked up from our hotel at 8am in a comfortable coach for the day trip. The tour included a visit to three tombs, a incense and conical hat making market, a martial arts display and finally the Citadel.
The driver was very pleasant, polite and helped the older members of the tour to disembark the vehicle. The tour guide ( we are unsure of her name) was young, enthusiastic and very hard working.
The tombs were very interesting and the information provided was adequate. The martial arts display was unnecessary but was entertaining and not unpleasant. The incense and conical hat making market was dull and unnecessary. Both of these activities took time away from visiting the precious citadel.
What was exceptionally poor was the buffet lunch at Thang Long Restaurant- the reception was hostile, the food was bland, unappealing and cold- the worst food we have experienced in Vietnam (my husband has written a separate review on this). We would have preferred to have payed separately for lunch at any other establishment in Hué.
The visit to the citadel was too short ( a brief one hour) and lacked structure. The Thai Hoa Palace had a very informative video playing about the citadel but we were not allowed to watch this due to rush of the tour. This was unfortunate.
In summary the tour was falsely advertised at $13 USD per person but with the added entrance fees (360,000 VND ) for the temples and citadel; for the unnecessary martial arts show (70,000 VND) and drinks at the awful restaurant (20,000 VND) it came to $33 USD per person. Room for improvement!
