The Cambodiana is an older hotel in a country that has been through hell and the staff at the Cambodiana are mainly very good representatives of the friendly Cambodians. The hotel is fine and its well located. When you want to go sightseeing in the heat, the Bell Captain will call a Cyclo and help to arrange the cost and the destination with you. The cyclo will be your guide for the arranged trip and deliver you back to the hotel at which point you will pay the pre-arranged cost. Don't be surprised if the cyclo needs a dollar in advance so he can dash off across the road to the petrol station to fill up before you set off! And dinner at 'Friends' restaurant, a training place for ex street-kids, was a highlight of our visit to Phnom Penh. To see those gorgeous kids, bright-eyed and eager to learn, is an experience you won't forget. Plus the food was wonderful!

We called on spec as we had a last minute change of plans. 3 of us, wanting 2 nights. At first they said they could only do one night. As it was late and we were tired, and we had already tried 2 other hotels, we said we would have the 2 rooms. They then decided that they could do the 2 nights although they only had a twin room and a junior suite( queen bed and 2 rooms) for which they charged $150 and $250 respectively per night. This was more than we paid at Raffles!
The suite was ok although the bathroom was tired with no separate shower.
The twin room bathroom was in poor condition with repaired tiling and there were cigarette burns by the basin and on the bedside table.
The towels in both rooms were thin and greyish.
On the positive side, the breakfast was good and the pool clean although rather small for a hotel of this size.

We were part of a small tour group that spent one night at Hotel Cambodiana. This huge, attractive looking central hotel did not live up to it's appearance. The entrance lobby was pleasant but guest registration on the 5th floor was disorganized and seemed surprised by our arrival even though it was late afternoon. Our large room overlooking the main road was tired, disappointing and drab. Towels were thin and had a greyish tinge. The bathroom mirror had a sign affixed advising you not to drink the water ..... 2 sealed bottles of water were nearby. The whole atmosphere was neither warm or welcoming.

Must admit I was concerned after reading the reviews on here - bt it was impossible to find accomodation when we wanted to go and this hotel offered a double room at $115 per night so we booked and hoped for the best/
Journey didn't start so well as the hotel driver lost his car park ticket so we had to wait 30 mins whilst he had one sent from the hotel..but they were full of apologies and sisn't charge for this or the return journey four days later.
Admittedly the hotel is a little tired but the staff were so sweet and willing to help and they had decorated our room with roses. The room overlooked the river and was comfortable and clean.
The location is great and we loved our view of river life. All in all we thought it was fine.
NB If you have chance visit Friends restaurant - the staff there are young kids being trained in hospitality skills - great food and atmosphere with fantastic art for sale on the walls.

We paid about 75 USD for our room. I think you can do better at one of the smaller boutique hotels along the river. But we booked late for the week between Christmas and New Year's.

The downside: The lobby was garish - florescent lighting and lots of red and gold. I think the hotel probably caters to tourists from other Asian countries. We had a non-smoking room, but the hallway reeked of old smoke. The room was a standard hotel room with a king size bed - I found the mattress to be too hard. The biggest problem was that, when I woke up the next morning, my leg was covered in over a dozen bug bites which seemed consistent with bed bugs. While I cannot say for sure that I didnt get bitten by some weird bug going out in Phnom Penh the night before, I strongly suspect bed bugs.

The upside: the breakfast was very good, and they start serving early for people who need to make the 7 am boat leaving for Siem Reap, as we did. The breakfast room gave a great view over the Mekong. The reception was open all night, useful as we were flying in late and leaving early in the morning. The concierge easily arranged our tickets for the boat to Siem Reap on little notice.
