Had the misfortune to book this shabby filthy squalid little place. Check in was OK (that's it for the good stuff) the room was a disgrace. Paint bubbling and peeling from the walls. Air con so weak it would take months to cool the room. We had booked a river view room. The river is a cross the noisy main road out front and more of a glimps than a view. Bathroom was appalling grout black with mould. Literally left the room in 15 minutes to find a bar to get over the horror. On the walk came across the best western (See that review) and decided to cut our losses and move hotels. When we informed the staff we would not be staying because of the room they seemed to take it on the chin, we are not the first to walk away apparently. Final warning I would not let my dog stay here. Plenty of other options available in close proximity.

Sabai dee!

One thing to clarify immediately is that its not called Intercity Boutique Hotel anymore just Intercity Hotel.(2017)

We have lived in Laos for a few years prior so this was our 1st tie back as tourists. We stayed here due to its location & price, the hotel is right on the riverfront, and walking distance to most eateries in town, a walk across the road and you're right in the idle of the Mekong night markets, next door is the Bor Pen Nyang Bar and deli/711 next door and Motorcycle/scooter hire also within walking distance.

The room we had was on the top floor with a balcony overlooking the Mekong & markets. For the time we were there we there the room was ideal. Shower & bath although the shower head was hard to get under as water pressure wasn't great especially when trying to wash hair. The bed was normal Laos bed a bit on the hard side but still got a good nights sleep, air con worked well so we were kept cool all night. Bar fridge with tea & coffee available.
Had some in house laundry done which was very efficient!! Housekeeping is available every day although we chose not to use it.
At night after 9pm if you have hired a scooter it is locked inside (the reception foyer) and put outside buy staff at 6pm.
Staff were great very helpful & polite

One place we will return to for sure!

Khop Chai deu!

Room Tip: best views, excellent location, value for money, excellent staff

The hostel is situated right next to the night market / Mekong and as such is the place to be.

Unfortunately we were there during Lao New Year and it was VERY loud and crowded and wet... First we had a room facing the street and hardly slept the first night, but once we asked to change the room to the rear side of the hotel, the staff was very understanding and supportive. They offered us a solution right away and also helped us with all our other questions and requests during the stay.

The rooms are simple but clean, offered everything we needed (aircon, shower, okay bed, tv) and was quite spacious. For an average price of 29$ we thought, that was a fair bargain.

Insider tipp: Take the elevator to the 4th floor and follow the stairway up to the 5th floor. Sneak pass the 2 rooms and open the balcony door to take a great view over the scenery... ;-))

The lobby is quirky with many wooden Hindu and Buddhist carvings. Location is OK. There is a night market opposite the hotel which was going on till midnight. This would not have been a problem but the noise travelled through in to our bedroom and kept us up. The noise in the room really was a problem, not just from the market but from passing cars and motorbikes. It was like we had all the windows open. For the second night of our stay we asked to be moved in to a room at the back of the hotel even though it was a much smaller room. This was much quieter. The bathroom wasn't the cleanest either.
The hotel offered free breakfast with our stay. Breakfast was served in the restaurant next door also owned by the hotel. The breakfast was an omelette with a chicken sausage, a slice of ham and some lettuce and tomato. The service in the restaurant was dreadful. We ordered 2 beef steaks and when they came out one was pork. We asked them to change it but they didn't understand so I had to use many hand gestures to get them to understand. It took them an hour to clear the plates from the table and we were the only 2 people in the restaurant. Then they forgot about our dessert, twice, and we waited 2 hours for it. It wasn't too much of an issue as we were just passing time before our flight home but the staff didn't care at all and no apology was offered or probably even thought about. I understand that we can't expect everyone to speak English but not even the staff in the hotel understood us.
