Owner description: The Bible Lands Museum Jerusalem is the only museum in the world dedicated to the history of the Ancient Near East from a biblical perspective. The core exhibition displays an extraordinary collection of ancient art and archaeology tracing the roots of monotheism from the dawn of civilization to early Christianity. The treasures on display represent the physical evidence of civilization and events described in the Bible. Traditions, rituals, religions, and cultures are revealed through ancient ivories, mosaics, jewelry, seals, terra cotta and stone sculptures. The magnificent cultures of ancient Egypt, Sumer, Assyria and Babylon come to life before you.The exhibits feature the Assyrian ivories from Nimrud (circa 800 B.C.), sarcophagus of Julia Latronilla dated from the 4th century and an impressive collection of cylinder seals and scarabs.

We spent a quiet morning ambling through the exhibits: First we followed the permanent and well-set-up exhibit displaying artifacts along the time line from Babylonia to modern Israel. (Guided tours and recorded tours - both excellent - are both available for those who want them.) Then we went through a temporary exhibit - artifacts and video - about David and Goliath. This museum is a must-see for anyone with an interest in archeology.

Not as large as its next door neighbor the Israel Museum, this Bible Lands focuses mainly on antiques from the Middle East and Fertile Crescent. The museum provides detailed explanations of the artifacts, and a good overall picture of the people and places of that era. There are some fixed and some alternating exhibits.
During holidays there are special entertaining kid activities, but there are kid-friendly options available all year long, with various games available using the unique free smartphone app. My kids really enjoyed it during the previous Passover vacation.

Make sure to download the BLMJ audio tour app before you get there, their wifi is very slow, and the app is a must to get the most out of your tour.
We enjoyed ourselves and learned so much it was amazing. as a side note, for anyone reading this review if you know what the "Insight Books" are ... it was a valuable resource while we were touring all of Israel

I spent 4.5 hours at the BLMJ (and I have see every single artefact and model; read every single table and description; listened to every single recording on my audio guide), but I think you can see it all in less than two hours.
As someone who has always been fascinated by the pre-historic and ancient history, I had a fantastic time at the museum – there are exhibits ranging from as far as the Stone Age, through the Old Egypt, Assyria, Persia, etc. until the Roman Era, basically, as the museum name suggests, it focuses on peoples mentioned in the Bible.
Museum is very well organised, you get a very good English audio guide (not sure what other languages they have in offer), and a map.
Students get a concession.
