Description: Pastel – a modern, stylish Israeli brasserie led by owner Itzik Hengal and Chef Tavakuli. Pastel restaurant resides in a lively area that houses the city’s premier cultural institutions. The restaurant attracts visitors from the Tel-Aviv Museum of Art, the Cameri Theatre, and the Israeli Opera, as well as guests out on the town, enjoying its unique location. In charge of the restaurant’s design, which has earned the title of “Best Designed Restaurant” in the worldwide competition Space Design Award – Idea Tops of 2014, are architects Alon Baranowitz and Irina Kronenberg. The restaurant has been designed as an integral part of the new wing of the museum, which was designed by American architect Preston Scott Cohen. The building’s exterior layer is sucked in sculpturally to create the seating and bar area. The restaurant comprises of three separate seating areas, each offering a different dining experience: the central space; the spacious terrace overlooking the sculpture garden; and the “cocoon” – a tucked-away, hidden bar that is a world of its own. Each space offers a variety of seating areas and a wide range of styles and ambiences for wining and dining. The restaurant dedicates a great deal of emphasis to the small details, in the quality of service as well as that of the food. Chef Hilel Tavakuli creates Mediterranean dishes with a modern interpretation, dishes that complete the cultural experience of the location and are often described as works of art in their own right. The menu is precise, leading guests on a one of kind culinary journey.

Recently went here for a Saturday lunch. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and designed and the tables well spaced out which is difficult to find in many Tel Aviv restaurants . Saturday lunch is the regular dinner menu, not the weekly lunch menu which is more of a bargain. I found the background music too loud especially since the restaurant wasn't full and it disturbed me. The service was adequate, but nothing more and we had to seek a waiter a few times, they weren't attentive to our needs.
we both had the scallops on risotto for the appetizer which was basically good, but nothing more. They were undercooked a bit and the risotto was a bit tasteless. For my main I took a small order of their labeneh tortellini on roasted tomatoes. Only 3 tortellini served and there was nothing special about it. I was shocked at such a small portion. My companion had the linguini with mussels which was much better. The only outstanding part of the meal was our desert the Black Forest, a combination of fudge, chocolate mousse, chocolate covered cherry ice cream, fresh forest berries and some kind of jelly which was both beautiful to look at and delicious. The meal for 2, no drinks at all, no bread, one desert and basically one pasta main and 3 starters came out to 380 shekels, over a $100, so it is expensive for what you receive

I dont know what has happened in Tel Aviv since I last went but two of the public places we left money in for the bill - money went missing, It's a real shame - this place is high quality dining and the food and service were excellent

The poor waitress missed out on a very good tip when she came back and told us there wasn't enough money there, we had left substantially more than needed and the manager had handled the bill.

We got a refund for desert because of the broken plastic but I was annoyed and appalled the waitress lost out when she gave us great service.

The setting is lovely and the food is too a very high standard taste and quality wise.

We enjoyed a lovely dinner at the bar . High quality steak and delicious pasta dishes are our favourite but there is much else to choose from.

In the very hart of Tel Aviv in the building of Tel Aviv museum you will find an excellent and beautifully served food, stunning design, quite atmosphere and lovely music, that will not disturb you. We were in Pastel three times during year and a half - twice for lunch and once for a dinner. So, now I can say with confidence, that this is a very good restaurant. May be one of the best mid range restaurants in Tel Aviv. I will not suggest ant meals, because all we have was very tasty, fresh and with very beautiful and modern look. Just take a break from a lnoisy and usually hot Tel Aviv and enter this oasis. You will be not disappointed.
