Ghar e Hera is the site of first Revelation of Quran. It says 'Read by the name of Allah'.
We went there at 1 am by taxi. It was easy to find taxi, which charged 25 SR. Pl make sure that taxi drops at base of the mountain, otherwise bad of mountain is quite steep from road and drains energy and take time. Ensure to carry some Water, laban, juice, snacks. Those will be needed. Climb looks tough, but we manage to do in 25 minutes. Ensure to have some torch or mobile light, if you go at night.

Offering prayers at site is great spiritual experience, worth going if one is physically fit.

We climbed this on our final night in Mecca. It took us around 20 minutes to get to the foot of the hill by taxi (costing app. 50 riyal each way). We did it around midnight. Visibility due to full moon was good and it took us between 30-45 mins to climb (mostly paved with steps). It's doable for people of all ages and the place is active with people throughout. The climb is really enjoyable and to witness the cave and the exact same spot where the prophet received some of the revelations from the Koran is an amazing experience. Highly recommended.

Climb this mountain and you will see a panoramic view of Mecca. Only about 1,200 steps to climb. It is notable for being the location of the Cave of Hira, where Muslims believe Muhammad received his first revelations and where Quran was first revealed, from God through the angel Jibril (Arabic: جِبرِيل ) (alternatively spelled Jabraeel, جبرائيل , as is pronounced in certain Quran recitation schools and some Arab tribes). In English, Jibril is known as Gabriel, and in Hebrew as גַּבְרִיאֵל.[1]
