A flash back to Bogotá en the 70's. It feels like staying at your uncle's home: typical local food and great caring people The host takes special care of the environment, the hotel is full of eco-perks. Interesting people, art exibitions, yoga, kung-fu classes and flee markets make staying at this place a unique experience.

If you want to feel “adventurous” inside a hand-made shaft, made of recycled wood panels and old furniture, this is the place for you. I’m not of the kind so I will not stay there again. As the name suggests, this is an old house where very thin staircases lead up to the roof where two small rooms have been added. The one I first stayed had parts of the ceiling that were so low that I had to walk bending all the time, for fear of bumping my head. Walls are so thin that you can hear anyone showering, brushing their teeth or snoring. The bathroom in the upper floor room is equipped with an “integrated” but very uncomfortable WC and lavabo, and shower is “hot” only if nobody else has already taken one, so get up and shower at 5:00 AM. If somebody else is using the water you will notice it immediately when the flow gets scarce. Power goes of at the minute you need it more, and it means no more internet connectivity, of course. One the bright side, staff and owner are very nice, almost apologetic all the time. They know the hotel is still to be made. It's cheap, yes, In every sense of the word.

Room Tip: Abstain from the two rooms on the upper floor.

We have just read Mr. Gumucio´s opinion and, again, must apologize for whatever inconvenience he may have had during his stay with us. Casa Rústica is an open invitation to participate in the Réco philosophy as a lifestyle. We are aware that not everybody likes this lifestyle and are very respectful in that aspect. Nevertheless, we insist on doing our best to help our Mother Earth (and, consequently, our possibility of living here) and therefore feel very proud of the picture Mr. Gumucio took of our integrated bathroom( a local design of something that designers in countries like Japan have already been doing for several years). We thank Mr. Gumucio for his remarks since they help us to improve our service.

The Casa Rustica has a very personal, home-away-from-home touch to it, with Peter and his team having put a lot of effort and love into the project, from the artistic furniture made out of recyced material to the individually prepared meals and fantastic fruit baskets. The location was very central for my business purposes (NGOs, embassies, universities) and the neighbourhood has some fabulous resaturants (e.g. the Local around the corner, specialising in high quality, (relatively) low price but definitely excellent Colombian dishes

Room Tip: try and get the attic room!

I stayed in Casa Rustica Bogota for one week in January 2012. It felt like home!! !

First of all, the owner, Peter, was there at the airport to meet me. He knows Bogota in and out and is a great source of information.

The hotel ( or rather, Bed and Breakfast) is only about a 25 minute drive from the airport. Located two blocks from the Financial District on Avenida de Chile and a 10 minute cab ride to the Gold Museum and Casa Botero, it is surrounded by great restaurants and shopping.

The house has been restored using all recycled and repurposed materials, and conforms to a green philosophy. Sure, it looks rustic, but when you consider that it was all built from materials recovered from demolitions the place is quite remarkable. The intent was to restore the house as close to its original condition as possible- house was built in the 50's.

The price includes a good breakfast of coffee or tea, fruit juice , eggs and breads; and an afternoon snack. The service is friendly and the place is immaculately clean.

Certainly there are some issues that still need to be addressed. The gardens ( front and interior) need some work, the kitchen could be modernized. However, these are small issues that do not interfere with the overall quality of the stay. Very pleasant indeed . I can highly recommend Casa Rustica Bogota for anyone looking for a low-key, inexpensive, comfortable stay while in Bogota.

Greetings:

I´m so sorry that it has taken me so long to answer. It is just that I wanted to inform that the kitchen, although not updated (since the original sense was to have kept it pretty much the way it must have been originally) has been considerably improved since we have already been able to partially restore the original tiles. This, thanks to customer input regarding specific chemicals that contribute to recuperate the original look of materials that have undergone the wear and tear of time.

Thanks for your patience.

Yours truly,

Peter Preminger
