“Very well maintained cemetery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 March 2012

Beautifully maintained, as it should be. Lots of reflection and respect.

It's good to see the effort that goes in to this place - we need to remember the war dead and never forget the prices they paid.

“Unbelievable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 March 2012

It was very well maintained - they were cutting the grass while we were there, using peg & line for accuracy. It was incredible how young many of the dead were. My uncle had been there in WWll, in the Chindits - but he had survived. We spoke to other visitors who had similar reasons for visiting.

“So sad”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2012

This place have all the dignity and sadness of the best war cemeteries. It is exceptionally well looked after and the architecture is very different from anything in Yangon. There are over 20.000 soldiers buried here and when you walk between the rows of simple stones you first notice haw young they all were. It is a sad place but you also feel that keeping this is a good thing for us and the young of today.

“Very well maintained war cemetry”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 March 2012

As many people have remarked, this is a very well maintained war cemetery, which is an impressive feat given the strained relations between the West and the Myanmar Government in previous years.
A popular spot for people to stop on the way to or from the Golden Rock or if you have time to spare when in Yangon it can be done in a half day trip. Parking is on the side of the road outside the cemetery.
Lots of graves but of course only a tiny fraction of those who died in Burma during World War II, whether on the Allied side, the Japanese side or especially the local inhabitants of Burma who became drawn into a war not of their choosing. It is a great memorial to the total futility of war though unfortunately all too few people ever actually learn that lesson. Worth a visit, if nothing else, to remind oneself of the realities of life.
