Owner description: This famous museum houses the world’s largest collection of ancient Egyption artifacts (more than 120,000 items on display) featuring the famous Tutankhamun collection with its beautiful gold death mask and sarcophagus and the royal Mummy room, which houses an additional eleven Pharaonic dignitaries.

We went to the Egyptian antiquities museum while we were in Cairo. We paid extra for the royal mummy exhibit- looking upon the mummy of Ramesses II was amazing. After seeing his mummy on many documentaries, it is a moment I never will forget. Having a guide with you at the museum is a plus also. They are building a new museum so the mummy’s will have a new home soon.

We were glad to hear that an additional museum is in the works. The existing one could barely hold the myriad treasures on hand. One could spend an entire day there and not see everything.

I had always heard that it was too crowded to get to see much.
But now it is very open and walkable. My advice - don't dawdle around. There is so much to see on 2 floors that you have to walk very fast to see it all in 2-3 hours. Of course there are the big things, but there are a lot of small objects in small rooms on the second floor which I found most interesting. It is noisy and hard to hear a guide so I took off on my own. I took pictures of everything. They are building a giant new museum on the Giza plateau and some things are being moved. I don't know when it is to be finished. Looks about 70% finished now.
