Looked at in the round, this is great value for money. Large suite-size rooms, balconies with Nile views, clean well-appointed and well-functioning bathrooms and it's well located for quick taxi rides to places like Coptic Cairo, Islamic Cairo, Tahrir Square and Zamalek. There's also an excellent string of moored boat restaurants on the opposite bank just over the bridge. There's a shop next door which sells most things a traveller might need for the room (water, snacks). And wi-fi is now available in the rooms at ten Egyptian pounds per 6 hours. I also found the staff friendly and helpful.
That said, the hotel might at first sight be a bit daunting for some travellers particularly arriving at night. It's dark, the road to it has no obvious landmarks and the lobby and lifts come across as shabby and in need of updating. In sum, if when travelling abroad your bag is the comfort and safety of the anonymous international chain - and there's nothing wrong with that, there are cities and circumstances when that's the sensible option - then this won't be for you. And it might not be a first time in Cairo option either. But for a bit of adventure and all the pluses in the first paragraph above, this is well worth a punt. I'm definitely using it as my base for my trips to Cairo.More
