Friendly staff and reception. Absolutely beautiful large rooms and bathrooms. Food average but staff very friendly. Wilson the Maasai who took us to our rooms was so friendly and helpful. Lovely gardens and stunning bar area.

Room Tip: All rooms facing park

Mara West is the perfect combination of tented camp and luxury resort. The location is excellent and the view into the Masai Mara Serengeti is beautiful! I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked out the front of our tent and a zebra was calmly ambling down the sidewalk in front of our tent! The meals prepared by Chef Peter were delicious and the staff warm and attentive. We could not have asked for a better experience!

The Mara West camp was perfect with great food, staff and game viewing on site. I would highly recommend this camp to anyone. Take a couple of hours and visit the school and clinic near by too. You can bring items from home to each of these places if you have room in your suitcases. I left part of my heart there. Would return in a heart beat.

The staff of Mara West exudes incredible customer service from the time that you arrive, until the moment you depart. The food was great, they even catered to my vegan/vegetarian diet. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, I almost did not want to get out of bed each day. The chalets are absolutely perfect, and the view from the balconies are absolutely astonishing. Grace, the housekeeper, happy personality makes you feel happy. John our guide, was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. The safaris were amazing, we saw lions up close and personal, we sat there and watched him while he ate a wildebeest for lunch. We were so close that we could hear him crunch on the bones of licking the prey, it was amazing, totally unforgettable. We were able to see the wildebeest migration across the crocodile filled river which was incredible to watch. We saw tons of animals, thanks to our guide John. There were even giraffes just down the road from the camp, we were able to walk down the road and take pictures of them. Mara west, thank you for creating wonderful lifelong memories that my Husband and I will always fondly remember. We are telling everyone that we know to come visit your wonderful camp. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

Alicia & James

Room Tip: Pick a chalet, the views are amazing.

This post is long over due and I may have done a disservice to potential guest that stayed elsewhere and missed out on an incredible opportunity! If you are going to Africa and want the experience of a lifetime, stay at Mara West. Andy the owner is an American who has been in Africa for over 30 years and has become family with the local Maasai. The camp is beautiful, positioned overlooking the reserve. With tons of wildlife and built in a non intrusive way, you get to really experience Africa and 5 star accommodations at the same time...a bit of an oxymoron, but you will understand if you go. The chalet we stayed in was unbelievable! The food and service were great! We saw all of the Big Five, the Leopard only briefly...but very cool!!

We visited many other reserves and camps in Amboseli, Arusha, Serengeti, and Angorongoro to name a few. Mara West and the Maasai Mara were by far our favorite!
