From welcome drinks when you get off the plane to great food to an incredibly beautiful lobby, this place does not disappoint. It almost comes across as dreamlike once you arrive. The staff bent over backwards to satisfy your every desire. The tents were gorgeous and the sounds of the nights (I.e. hippos, lions, monkeys, etc.) made it especially real. Highly recommend.

We stayed a few days at the Mara Safari Club during the rainy season in April for our honeymoon and had a GREAT time. Saw all the big 5, and had a great experience thanks to the amazing staff especially the rangers. I guess the game drives are even better during the dry season, but the low season has benefits too. First, you have more privacy as the hotels are basically empty, it feels like you have the entire hotel to yourself. Second, the park overall is also less crowded, so you have a more personalized service from the guides and when you are riding around don't see jeeps riding around, which makes it for better views/pictures and "shy" animals like the leopard are less likely to be scared away, although its harder to spot them. And finally, you can find better deals :). The downside is that you'll have rain at some point during the day, which for us wasn't bad at all, it actually gave us some great evening views

Room Tip: Ask for a tent far away from the main lodge if you'd like privacy and don't mind the walk

I stayed at the Fairmont Mara Club the first week of July. The hotel is located beside the Mara river so every tent has a view of the river. In the morning, the hippos would wake us up with their belching. A new alarm clock experience.

The tented rooms are very lovely. It really is just like a hotel room but under a tent! While the pictures are quite accurate depictions of what the room look like, the real thing looks much nicer. It temperature drops quite a bit a night so I really appreciated the hot water bottles they placed in the bed. The second night, I requested for a second water bottle and it totally made the bed into a toasty paradise.

Our safari guide was great and our group loved him. However, on our last day of safari, there were some shady conspiracies going on with other guides regarding spotting a big 5 but retaining the information to themselves by not calling it out on the radio. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the how the hotel trains the guide but our group felt completely shafted.

Overall, while the hotel is a bit pricey, we still enjoyed our stay. Good times!

Room Tip: Rooms towards the hippo hide have better viewings of the hippo but be aware of early morning wake up calls from the hippos!

We had never been on safari before, so we did not know entirely what to expect. Oh my goodness! This experience far exceeded our expectations, thanks in large part to the Fairmont Safari Club. Where do I start? The proximity to the animals is incredible. Our guide/driver was Anthony. Ask for him. He is fabulous! He has a degree in zoology plus he is Maasai. The tents are nice. The food is good. The service is superlative. This was one of the best vacations of our lives and we recommend this property highly. It was expensive, but it was worth it.

The Fairmont Mara Safari Club has some well appointed tents, but, as I understand, they are not the best. The food is above average, but the service is excellent. My remark is that prices in Maasai Mara are steep and totally out of context for the standards of the country. The place caters to tourists and tries to take full advantage of them. Mind you, The Fairmont Mara Safari Club is NOT the most expensive place to stay in the area. There are other places more luxurious and costly, but truth be told The Fairmont is well situated with beautiful gardens by the river offering the chance to glance at Hippos, Crocodiles and Monkeys thus giving it the praise worth staying in it.

Room Tip: The Hot Air Baloon option albeit very expensive (US$ 470) is worth is only under good conditions. If it is very windy, they cancel it and you get your money back, but if there is no wind, they do not cancel and it is like going up on an elevator, totally throwing money out of the window. I was lucky enough to enjoy optimum weather conditions and therefore worth the expense.
