By NOT knowing any Mandarin, I was anxious while out and about. There was no need to be. This Crowne Plaza is within walking distance to Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the shopping area & street known as Wangfujing. Even getting a taxi and figuring out the fare was easy when I had written down the address for the driver. For anyone going without a group, THIS is a wonderful place in the city to be.

If yes the hotel is becoming old, it is well maintained and ideally located, it is in the vicinity of many others international hotels. Metro is not that close, but it gives you the opportunity to walk part of Wangfujing street. Breakfast is very good and there is a pool upstairs. Concierge services are ok, I didn't like the fact that booking of taxi for the airport must be paid in cash and in advance (300 ¥ !), this seems not very pro.

The location is perfect for sightseeing trips in and around Beijing. I was surprised by the great service of the hotel. Specially surprised about the F&B team. First of all I was surprised to find a steakhouse in the hotel but I was impressed by the services and the quality of the food. The restaurant manager and the F&B manager / director were really friendly and asked me several times or everything was good. The next day during breakfast the F&B director even remembered our faces and ask or we enjoyed the diner and or he could support with anything today. With help of him we booked a nice trip to the great wall.

Stayed on two occasions mid and late July at Crown Plaza, Wangfujing, Beijing.

The first stay was for three days, the second just overnight a week later.

This review starts with the first stay of three days.

Check in and out perfect, the room on the third floor was comfortable, clean, and appointed with all expected amenities.

There were two issues, the room cooling and the safe.

The room was just too cool overnight and no way to turn it off or turn it down. The safe didn't work and this was reported early the next day to reception. It was never fixed. Didn't report it again, once should have been sufficient.

We paid for breakfast and it is expensive. More so for our issues.

Day one. Asked for eggs easy over, that's one flip after cooking the first side. Flip, flip flip, the egg chef (sic) would be better employed producing tennis balls. Inedible and left uneaten. Side dish of bacon barely warm.

Day 2. An early pick up go on a tour, so down for breakfast at opening time. Too bad the days egg chef didn't start till 20 minutes later, by that time I had given up waiting as had others that started to line up. Side dish of bacon barely warm.

Day 3. Ordered an omelette. Now what could go wrong with an omelette? Served up an uncooked runny mess. Left the plate on the side of the table for the duration of our stay that morning, but despite other plates being removed by waiting staff, the egg plate remained. It was finally removed by a black coated manager and on seeing the mess asked if I wanted her to arrange for a better cooked omelette. I declined. Side dish of bacon cold.
It was interesting to note a fresh batch of bacon was brought out from the kitchen and on thinking this would be hot, was not surprised to find it cold. Warmer are for keeping hot food warm, they are not designed for heating cold food.

So big problems with cooked (sic) breakfast dishes.

Our eating problems didn't end with breakfast.

The hotel has posters urging guests to eat in and earn point to accelerate their way too free nights.

Tried that at the first floor Chinese restaurant. Great food, perfect service, no issues except when the bill came. Asked for the bill to go on our room account. "That's impossible" said the waiter. He had the account and card machine in hand, we paid cash.

So in summary, Crown Plaza great for accommodation 4 stars, terrible for breakfast, 0 stars, overall 2 1/2 stars due to 3 days of bad breakfasts, broken safe, and cooling.

The second stay of just the one night was fine, check in and out great, didn't even look at the safe, room on the cool side for us, and didn't book breakfast, ate later at nearby McDonald’s, yes I know desperate times cause desperate actions. Would give the hotel 4 stars overall for this night.

Have to say thanks to the concierge team, found them friendly at all times, and had them book me taxis and private cars on several occasion and very helpful with assistance in getting to out of the way places.

First time visiting Beijing so we chose the Crown Plaza Wangfujing due to its location. Excellent location, close and in walking distance to a number of Tourist sites, about a 5 – 10 minute walk to the nearest metro station. We found the metro system very easy to understand and use to get about. On checking in my Spire Elite status was recognised and I was informed I had been upgraded to the club floor with all the benefits. The room we were allocated was very large, clean and the bathroom was enormous. The lounge was a peaceful heaven to retreat to. I would like to say a big thank you to all the young ladies who worked in the lounge were very friendly and could not do enough for you and true ambassadors for the Crown Plaza name. There was a good choice for Breakfast in the lounge and eggs were cooked to order. Again the evening cocktail and canape hour was a delight with a good choice. All areas of the hotel were clean and tidy. The hotel offers a tour desk and the concierge staff were knowledgeable. Hotel is with a couple of minutes’ walk to the shopping district where plenty of restaurants can be located. Oriental plaza has a large food court offering a vast amount of food for different plates. There are also a lot of western fast food chains within the area. We had a very pleasant stay in a hotel that put their customers first. One word of advice a lot of the sites like the museums are closed on Mondays and Chairman Mao Memorial hall is closed for a few months for restoration.

Room Tip: Club Floor
